Nesting Tables: Function and Style
I have been drawn to nesting tables a lot recently. They serve the purpose of providing me with a lot of table space without taking up a lot of room. This is great for laying out periodic projects or offering table space to guests when they are here.
Nesting tables can be a great asset to your home design. They add to a room in the same way that side tables or end tables do. However, they are slightly more interesting since they can be stacked or pulled into interesting configurations.
Nesting tables are most commonly seen in living rooms, often next to arm chairs. However, I have seen them in bedrooms, kitchens and even bathrooms. Every room could use a little but more surface space!
What you put on your nesting tables is just as important as where you put them. They can be very functional but can also serve to hold collections and kitschy objects if you wish.
Nesting tables are made today in almost any material. Acrylic nesting tables are increasingly popular. Wood nesting tables are more traditional. And glass or metal nesting tables provide a great contemporary look.

What attracts me to these nesting tables is that they are unusual in their shape. They are much taller and narrower than most of the nesting tables that I've seen. Although classic in their wood design, their shape gives them a bit of a surprise element that makes them a fun part of this room.
I would love to see a set of nesting tables like this where the shorter one is designed to stack underneath the longer one in perpendicular fashion rather than parallel. I think it adds a neat twist to the total look.
I rarely see nesting tables made for the bathroom. Think about it for a moment and you'll see that it's a genius idea. Where else in the house do you need to spread out many different things at once and yet have to keep them in a small space? Take out the nesting tables when you're doing your in-home spa days and stick them in the corner when you're done.
This bench/table pair isn't quite stackable but it evokes the same type of feeling. I love the way that nesting tables can be placed in fun configurations that attract the eye to the whole set.
Here's another set that isn't quite stackable. What I want to draw attention to here is the lamp, though, that mimics the nesting table idea in its design. One of those sitting on true nesting tables would be a great touch!
Stacking suitcases on top of one another is a nice vintage twist on the ending of nesting tables. Instead of the largest going on top, the largest goes on the bottom. However, the individual suitcases can still be used as little tables or surfaces and they can be configured in aesthetically pleasing ways.
Nesting tables would be a great addition to this fun outdoor space. You could just pull them over to your individual chairs and use them to set drinks on.
Lucite and acrylic are popular clear materials for nesting tables. This lucite table is tall enough to hint at the two or three matching tables that could fit underneath it.
I would absolutely love to see a set of nesting tables at the end of this table that exactly matched the cube chairs that we see here. It would add that extra oomph to the design of the room.
This picture of the creative kids' table makes me think about how nesting tables could be used at multi-generational gatherings. Maybe it's just because I'm the eldest of my siblings but I would love to see different-sized kids' tables for different groups that could then be nested into each other for storage.
