You are NOT going to believe this but...

Please read it anyway.

Some of you have read about the male bird that I"m agonizing over because I think he is injured. I made a few phone calls this morning and got a few leads for re-habbers and vets.

This afternoon the cable company came to install a new modem for me (this was a postponed appointment from 2 weeks ago). One of the men was looking at my tv which was on the "bird channel" and he asked me if I am a rehabber? I said no I have a nestcam. He said he and his wife are rehabbers, she is licensed and works for one of the vets that was recommended to me. He looked at my photos of the bird and we zoomed in on it. He thought it looks like a fishing lure, but not sure. He gave me his number and I'm going to try to trap the bird tomorrow. he said he will come and pick it up and bring it to the hospital if I catch it. Do you believe there is a God? or is this just a huge coincidence? I'm a little spooked right now but I am thanking the universe for this coincidence that came to me when I needed it.

Ok so I called the only petstore that carries live worms and asked if they have any in the store. Yes, I was told, they have waxworms, but no mealworms. Fine, I take the half hour ride over there only to be told that they don't have any waxworms! UH OH, no way am I leaving that store without worms, not after calling and driving 1/2 hour. The manager told me also that they had no more. I told her she'd better find out who answered the phone and told me they had them. Well, they have lizards and turtles and birds in this store, so i suppose she took some from the store's supply for their animals. I didn't care at that point where she got them from but they are the most pathetic looking waxworms that I've ever seen.

Anyway, i have my trap set out by the garden and I will put out these worms tomorrow morning to see if I can catch Blueboy and get him some help. I made my daughter promise to check the trap every hour while I'm at work just in case mama or papa decide to go in. I have NEVER done anything like this before so wish me luck.

LOL! I blogged about that very subject last week! Here is what I wrote and a link to my blog. I believe in second chances. Well, within reason. I got a good laugh yesterday when husband brought in the mail. HereÂs whyÂ He handed me an envelope that I could tell was obviously junk mail. BUT WAITÂit wasnÂt just any junk mail! Also between what dates count? I started about 20 containers of seeds that say they benefit from a warm-cold-warm period so I started them a little bit earlier! From my first time last year, I remember I did pretty many and there wasn't anything over a 1,000 I think so I doubt there is any bigger nursery folks doing it! lol just alot of people like me who have tons of time to keep racking those containers up! lol I would say maybe the top person from each zone? or top 3 people in the zone that won? I don't remember any prize last month except bragging rights ;) so I think anyone will be happy with any sort of prize you can do!! Can't wait :) ~Michael heavenlyfarm

OH MY ! Anita, I do believe this is a GOD thing! It happens all the time, you just seem to run into the people you need at the time. It happens to me over and over again. Please dont be spooked. I am quite sure you will get this bird and he will be saved because of your help. Coincidence? NOPE! I know we are not supposed to bring our faith into these forums, but please believe this happened for a reason, how cool to find a rehabber in your own back yard! This is where you will find help for all the things that may come up in the future! Lucky you!

Wow, I sure hope you can capture him. It is kinda odd that the pics, taken on different days, look the same. I sure hope you can help him!! Please keep us updated.

If it is indeed a beak fracture, depending on the severity, some general anesthesia and dental acrylic applied to the beak may save him. The dental acrylic is hot and gives off some horrid fumes while wet but hardens quickly and will stay in place strengthening the beak until the fracture naturally grows out over time.

The birds are releasable fairly quickly after the simple fracture repair is made. I've fixed more than one Ring-billed Gull beak, a Cardinal, Blue Jay, Flicker and Purple Finch with the acrylic. More severe fractures may require wires and a prolonged captivity during recovery.

Good luck finding out what is wrong with your birdy.

Ok it's 7 pm and I've trapped the father bird TWICE. Beakboy has visited but not gone near the trap with the tasty worms. I really wonder if he can eat. Does anybody know how long a bird can go without eating before it dies or is too weak to fly?
