Yes...with reservations.
I've always said that trust can't be given - it has to be earned.
I'm willing to let someone earn it.

Since moving here I have been forced to rethink the whole ghost thing. At first I noticed that my thermostat would be changed to cold. I kept trying to rationalize how that could happen while we were asleep. Every morning we would wake up freezing and when I checked the thermostat it would be all the way down. I always set it on 69 at night during the winter. I teased Katrina about Spook messing with the thermostat. One night I said " Spook please don't change the thermostat any more." It hasn't happened again. Spook does have a thing for my clothes and shoes. She recently took my black jeans and 2 cream colored long sleeve tees. I took great care to look at every piece of clothing in the closet on several occasions during the 2 weeks the clothing was missing. A couple of nights ago I walked in the closet and announced to Spook. "Please put my jeans and shirts back and take something else for awhile." The next morning when I walked in the closet they were hanging exactly in the places where I had originly put them. I haven't missed anything since Spook brought them back, but it is just a matter of time. Sometimes I miss pieces of jewelry but when I ask for them back, they appear again. I know this sounds like I'm crazy and believe me I have thought the same thing. I have taken great care to organize my closet so that I hang clothes a certain way in certain order. These are only a small part of the things going on but all the things have been just things going missing and then re-appearing. Once in awhile there are things that annoy me and I will say "okay Spook, enough is enough." I'll save Sassi's reaction for another time.

Do you believe in Karma?
Q

Juellie1962, yes, I've considered it. And also considered the idea of the "they're in a better place" that is so often stated after a death. But for many who believe in Heaven and Hell, apparently they feel Hell is a better place? Or is it as was discovered on Twilight Zone or Night Gallery - this is Hell? A lot of interesting discussion. To add to what sherrmann and petra said, and viewing many of the posts here, apparently many believe God works by ballot. It must be with all the shoutouts for prayers. Your prayer alone won't do it so you need everyone else to pray for it to stand a chance of it happening the way it looks. So if 100 people pray for something to happen, perhaps it'll happen, but if only 99 pray for it, it won't. Someone will have to fill me in on what the minimum votes are, whether by number or percentage. And if only one prays for it, not much chance then is there? So then what about the person who was going to pray for the death of a forum member and she did die? Perhaps some have more powerful prayer? Or is it "Karma"? Or a coincidence. Maybe more people prayed for a "9-11" event than prayed for the US to be protected so we lost the election. Or it was "will" or "karma". And of course there's the PTL chants when someone is healed but nothing said about the deity that gave them the disease, broken bones, etc. Selective worship or simply hypocrisy? Or maybe it's Karma! :D One has to wonder why a nation needs laws, if in the end they're judged and rewarded/punished. Why have jails? If the rapists, murderers, thieves, scammers, drug dealers, telemarketers, etc, will all get what they have coming in the end, why waste the time, effort and money now? Then too the question, do you have to "qualify" to pray? If someone is not a "believer" and decides to pray, are those prayers automatically ignored? So many questions, so little time. "I love God. He's so deliciously evil!" - Stewie Griffin

I had several dreams about Ken, but the last one was when he said he had something to show me and the letter on the floor. After he passed, seems like I could sense that he was near me sometimes. I can't explain it....so I don't try. It just was. In one of the dreams I had about him, I was laying in a hospital bed. I knew that I was dying, People were standing around my bed on both sides. I don't recall that I knew who they were. Ken was at the foot of the bed. He turned and walked out of the room, Then my dream switched and I was walking down my driveway at the bayou. Ken had given me his truck and it was parked alongside the driveway. Between the mirror and the glass on the driver's side door, were three sheets of notebook paper folded in half. It was from Ken. He always wrote on notebook paper in pencil. I started reading it and he was apologizing for leaving the room when I was dying. He said he couldn't bear to watch. Then I woke up. I didn't get to finish reading the letter. He was a crew chief on a B52 bomber when he was in the Air Force. He had read every book available on the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and could talk about that for hours. One time in the library, back when you had to sign a library card to check out a book, I looked at many, many books in the non fiction section, and his name was in them all. He was a voracious reader. I used to read a lot of true crime, but I would lose interest when I got to the court room chapters, so I would give them to him to read and he would tell me about them. But he finally said that he couldn't read any more of them. It was too depressing. When it was time to put his cat down, he couldn't do it, and I had to. So it in my dream it was not unlike him to not be able to stand around and watch me die. He always kept a loaded .45 revolver under his pillow. It wasn't to kill anyone, but himself, if he felt he had to. I knew about it and I never tried to talk him out of it, because I knew he wouldn't but he needed the security of knowing he had that option, I couldn't take that from him. After he died and I called his family and the police and the coroner came, I told them about the .45 under his pillow. They acted like it was a big deal. I don't know why. He was dead....it wasn't like he was going to shoot anyone. His sister, who lived next door came....but none of the rest of his family did. I stayed until they took him away.

Do you believe in UFO's?
Q
Comments (51)
I partially agree with your thoughtful comments, but only partially. I think people in the general field tire of UFO questions from apparently gullible "believers" who are disappointed when the "expert" doesn't share their "beliefs". I know someone who's an astronomer and he's told me that he's lost patience dealing with people who ask him UFO or life on other planets questions. Here's something I heard once - take two boxes. Label one "Things I've learned to be true or untrue" and label the other "Beliefs I have". Write down all of your thoughts (not literally but for the purpose of this) and put them in the appropriate box. Keep everything you know or think in the box it belongs in and don't try to move things from one to the other. When you pull something out to think or talk about, remember what box it came from and expect others may keep that same item in a different box than you do. A fabulous and very interesting example of this concept in practice can be experienced by listening to a captivating 10 episode podcast (recorded during classroom presentations) entitled "The Historical Jesus", by Prof Thomas Sheehan, from Stanford University. Sheenhan explores the historiography (rigorous historical academic investigation and research concerning) Biblical accounts of Jesus and his times. With some coverage of the Old Testament. The unbiased work done in the last 150 years suggests the assumptions carried over the centuries about the source of the material in the Bible and the events described are unsupported. Not unknown, but unsupported because of convincing evidence to the contrary. It's a most interesting tale, he explains the work done, contradictions investigated, and the factual bases for the conclusions. Keep that thought in mind. Now consider that he also describes himself as a devout, practicing Catholic. A product of Catholic secondary and university institutions, up through his PhD, and a longtime professor at Catholic universities. He repeatedly apologizes to those in class, reminding them that his intent is not to criticize or persuade them to drop any religious beliefs they have but rather to inform them of facts that have been unearthed from academic investigations. He says something like - "keep your beliefs, as I do. They need not be proven if they're important to you. The study of history is a matter of scientific investigation. This is a history class, not a religion class. Don't combine the two". Available through the Apple/iTunes source for free. Very interesting and entertaining. PS - later edit to add I think there's need for a third box - things I know nothing about with certainty and don't pretend or assume otherwise

I would say yes. But it depends on how bad the first chance was screwed up. I can always forgive, forgetting is not one of my strong suits.

I think you should give people a second chance because no one is perfect, but will they change?, probably not.

If I didn't believe in second, and sometimes more chances, there is no way I could work in social services. I guess is depends on the circumstances, but I think most people usually deserve a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes, it's part of being a human being.

Everyone deserves the chance to get it right..But there comes a point when you figure out...it's never gonna happen.

Sure. Generally speaking. Everybody screws up at some point.
Of course there could be the situation when no second chance is warranted.

I approach with caution on Second Chance. Just because I forgive, doesn't mean I have to stay in a situation either. Main Man's Youngest Son is someone I forgive but I will not be around him.

Second chances? Of course. If not, DH and I would not still be married..but rules and boundaries have to be stated, and responsibilities carried out, on both sides. I find this to be true of friendships, also.

Yeah. I believe in second chances. I gave a bunch out tonight. At Chess Club, I played several practice games with one of the member's little girl. She comes once a week with her dad and is learning the game. In one game, I gave back her queen 2 times, and a rook once, before I began to collect these pieces. Yeah, she got more than a second chance, but when a well mannered, little girl has the will to put out the effort to learn the game, concessions are in order.

LOL! I blogged about that very subject last week! Here is what I wrote and a link to my blog.

I believe in second chances. Well, within reason. I got a good laugh yesterday when husband brought in the mail. HereÂs whyÂ

He handed me an envelope that I could tell was obviously junk mail. BUT WAITÂit wasnÂt just any junk mail! It was from United of Omaha Life Insurance Company, and it offered a very valuable second chance! Even on the envelope in big, bold letters, it said:

HEREÂS THAT SECOND CHANCE YOU HOPED FOR!

Hmmm. Life insuranceÂa second chance What is so strange about that?

It was addressed to my mom. :-)

Here is a link that might be useful: Do you believe in second chances?
