Cage/Wire Feeder

Has anyone been using the Cage/Wire feeders to feed mealworms to the BB? I saw a cage feeder from BlueBird Nut or you can make one from a wire storage cube (walmart)

If you have had success with them I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Diana...I have the cage/wire feeder from Bluebird Nut...my blues love it, but it is too heavy to hang from a sheperd's hook, etc., so currently it is placed on top of my wooden privacy fence...it really needs to be mounted on a pole and I'm "waiting" on my son-in-law to finish the project! LOL...my only concern is that I live in the very deep south, and we have temps now in the mid 90's...the feeder is metal, and even with a top, the mealies are getting roasted, so to speak, so I have had to decrease my offerings to the blues....it's a really neat feeder and I think you will be pleased with it...

You might have better luck over in the Bird Watching forum, rather than in the hummingbird forum. But, having said that, I had one of those feeders (but I opted for no cage), and for the life of me, don't recall where I purchased it. you do know that 8/3 is only good for 40 amps don't you? is that going to be enough for future use? i setup my little worksshop for 100 amp service, though i am only feeding it with a 60 amp breaker for now since i had one on hand. when i want to add capacity all i have to do is swap out the main feed breaker, less than 5 minutes to up my capacity. your last post implies that you are having to buy the wire anyway, so why not spend a few more bucks now and have the capability for more capacity later?

I have the same problem with extra tomato plants, but unfortunately, I'm financially insolvent. In other words... flat broke lol. I have like 12 extra plants, have already stuffed more than I should have in the bed, and was just outside early this morning trying to see where I can stick what will hopefully become 10' tall monsters in among what I've already got planted. I'm in Hamblen, and if I can beg or borrow I'll let you know, but where I don't have enough cages, I was planning to just use a few stakes I made from some tree branches I cut down last summer and left to cure.

Thanks but I thought if they didn't get to a earth or dirt spot they don't make tubers. Cause one yr I had them in a big old 3 by 7 ft raised bed and they started climbing the fence behind me and there was a whole lot less tubers in that ONE raised bed Is the generally true. Cause I read it on this forum yrs ago.
