Don't need to take them out of pots. You can use scrunched up newspaper to surround the trunk of the plants on top of the soil, even bubble wrap. Then tape it down a few times across with packing tape. Put the whole pot into a garbage bag and if you are still concerned about spillage twist the ends of the bags at a couple of points and tape down again. That takes care of the pot end. For the growing end, it depends on what vehicle you are intending to use. and how much other stuff you have in there that might damage the leaves etc. If, for example, you were thinking of strapping to a roof rack, well you'd position the pot at the front of the car and try to wrap the rest in as much bubble wrap as yu could afford. If inside - like in the boot (trunk?) and then laying some seats forward, you just need to cushion the plant with bubble wrap, blankets, whatever works to stop it bouncing around. Seatbelts can work for plants, too!

The type of bird she is I believe is a regular sparrow as far as I know. The father has red on his chest and the mother is just a plain brown sparrow, I live in the Arizona desert in Lake Havasu City, Az. I failed to mention that the birds have not hatched yet they are still in there eggs. She laid the eggs last week. The egg laying started on the 8th she had one a day and has 3 now, so they were laid on the 8th, 9th and 10th. Adding the fake foilage is a good idea. I can monitor the nest very easily because it is right by the front door hanging on the wall and I have a glass front door. bandjzmom, this is not a hanging basket(although I do have those hanging out front too),this is a wrought iron planter with a flat back that one puts the coco fibar in it and it hangs on the wall. I stopped watering it because it would of for sure flooded the nest and I did not want to do that so I let the flowers die and that is the problem, it put the nest right out in the open. I think I will move it up and add some fake foilage (GREAT IDEA Lisa) I will then watch the nest from the inside at the front door. I think I have a better chance of this working because the birds have not hatched yet. I will keep you updated. I am relieved to know that she will not leave her eggs. If they just claimed it but haven't finished a nest yet...go ahead and move it. 20 feet is for sure close enough for them to follow. Move it whenever you want to, time of day doesn't matter not if there are no eggs yet...

As someone that has dealt with 2 rounds of this, let me say I am sorry, I know how hard it is to watch. I have had to deal with dozens of finches and siskins die. I took a sampling of them to a rehabber who in turn sent them to the State for reports. I did work with the rehabber and try to treat some of them with no luck. Because it is warm and natural food is plentiful I would defiantly take down all the feeders. If it were the dead of winter (when my 2 bouts have happened) I would give different advise. Hopefully this will slow it down. They will still congregate on natural foods. One good thing is that this is happening early enough that it should run it's course before supplemental feeding is really needed. Keeping spillage under the feeders clean is also very important. As hard as it sounds this happens and there's not much we can do. It will pass and the spices will not be wiped out for good though your numbers may be down for a year or two. In the winter I went to covering the ground of each feeding station with fresh snow and cleaning each feeder daily. I don't know that it did any good. I think it just runs it's course. At this time of year I think not feeding is the best option.
