So sorry to hear about the loss of your daddy Blue. GET RID OF THAT CAT (take it to a shelter) or your baby blues will end up suffering the same fate!

Believe me, I know how you feel. My daddy blue died at the hands of a cat, almost 2 wks ago. Fortunately, Mama found a new mate and is now incubating 5 eggs. My wonderful vet agreed to take the cat and find her a home. As of yesterday, the cat was relocated to a nice family living on a large farm. This was my only choice as I was not willing to take down my nestboxes and quit feeding the birds. I'm very happy that the cat will be well cared for and my birds are safe.

Have you spoken to any of your neighbors about who might own this cat? If you don't want to take her to a shelter, give your vet a call and ask for their help.

No,definitely not. She is definitely a stray and has been hanging around a couple of months. I've been trying to find a home for her and cannot afford to take her in myself. I'm going to try a couple rescues before the animal control becaue we have such a high kill-rate. I'm heartbroken about daddy blue. I keep looking for momma but she doesn't care for the babies like daddy does so I'm worried about the babies. He hung around outside my window all day long, never more than 5 minutes going by without me seeing him. I feel like I lost a friend.

Me too Lisa, She is really a sweet cat. I hate that this happened all around.

NOt to mention that as long as that cat remains outdoors and unspayed she will have 5 kittens every spring and every fall for as long as she lives. And her kittens will be reproducing within a year. Do the math and see what a problem it is. Please trap the cat and at least have her spayed. I"m sure there is a low cost spay and neuter clinic somewhere in your area. Call a local vet and ask for help. You'll be doing the cat, the birds, and your neighborhood a favor.

Anita, I've done quite a bit of trapping and releasing in this neighborhood when the program was offered. It seems to go along with the natural ferrel population that the people who moved into townhomes in the area have been letting their cats out. This one is not ferrel and his very handlable and would make a good pet. Our local humane socieity has completely dissappeared and I'm unable to get in touch with the lady from the FOFF but this cat is not ferrel. I am going to contact some of the surrounding HS to see if they would be willing to help.

If she's not feral, why not start by bringing her to the vet and getting her spayed? That would make her more marketable and stop the endless flow of kittens that is sure to come. I do this work, too, and I"m glad you are trying but it is staggering to think the number of cats will come from one unspayed female in her lifetime. A family might be more willing to take a single female than a pregnant one.
