As I have said before, I am really new to the bluebird watching. This is my first year, and after loosing one set of eggs, they quickly laid 5 more which fledged successfully yesterday. Yeah !!!.
So, I am wondering what everyone does for mealworms. It took me a couple weeks before the birds found the worms, but when the chicks were about 3 days old, they finally noticed them and come to get now. Actually they didn't come this morning, but hawks and blue heron were flying around so I think they were hiding and I didn't want to bring them out anyway. I have been going through a tub/ week at $12 each from Wild Birds Unlimited. I got some wax worms last night from the bait store, but that is not going to be much cheaper. I was putting some out morning and evening.
What do you all do and how many/ how often do you put them out when they aren't nesting. Do you grow your own?
thanks for any help
