That's definitely the little bird i have been seeing all week. They are fun to watch because they are so quick. They are really hunting the grass for bugs i guess because they are constantly on the ground flashing their little yellow bottoms :-) Thanks so much for the pictures. Awww Brenda, you dont have the little fluffy vacuum cleaner wrens? They have so much personality and are so much fun to watch. They are so naughty too :-) i just love love love them! They follow all the other birds around and see what they are interested in and then they start liking it too. That of course makes the other birds mad so then the chase begins and it looks like a game of peek a boo because they are so small and fast the other birds can never catch them! LOL....If one bird likes a nest box then the little Carolina wren likes it. If somebody hides food then the little wren eats it. If somebody is guarding a certain tree then that is the tree the wren wants to be in. If somebody likes guarding a vine then thats the vine the wren wants to be in, and on and on and on. They are so mischievous and fun to watch , i laugh all the time at their antics. They are just so naughty and cute. Wish i could send you some but i only have one pair and i would surely miss them just to much. They even pick the bugs off of our cars and every bug off every hanging plant too. Yep they are just so wonderful. Little reddish fluff balls with big beaks and big voices! LOL....I hope you get some, Brenda they are wonderful. I saw a male Northern flicker today and i never realized how big they are, and their beaks are huge too! Lol...I never ever want to make one of them mad. So pretty though and very shy. I have always heard them but never saw them. Very exciting for me to finally put a real face (and beak) to that wild call they have. He hung on the very tip of a branch to pluck dogwood berries and the northern mocking bird that guards that tree didn't mess with him either. I dont blame him! LOL...Bonnie

Good luck with the HOSP dee! I'm glad your blues are active because mine are being SOOO SLOW! The male has landed on the box of one of my pairs, sat outside the box and wing waved, and gone in but Mrs. Blue REFUSES to go in! The TRES are EVERYWHERE this afternoon and the bluebirds are nowhere to be found!:( This time last year I had a completed nest and in fact this very day, April 15th, the 1st egg was layed. The only nest building I have going on is from TRES. I'm helping my two neighbors succeed with Purple Martins and one has trapped 1 native, killed one female BB by not checking the trap, and the other has his down and I talked to him and he is MUCH more knowledgeable and more likely to succeed. Glad you're having a great season, because I certainly haven't had that exciting of one yet:(....I love the TRES, I won the battle against the HOSP, but the blues in our area are being VERY slow. At my other trail there is 2 boxes...one is vacant and the other of course....you guessed it...has TRES. I saw a male HOSP twice in the area and he came out of the swallows box (They have a good nest start) and the swallow drove the HOSP into the ground. We're in for a cooler weekend and if those swallows leave that HOSP will have his way. Good luck! Because that possibility here for 3 broods is dropping fast.

Apparently the incubation phase is over. I see both male & female BB sitting on top of the box together frequently. Alternating hanging onto the openning. The female rarely goes all the way in; I assume it must be very crowded in there! The male appears to be cleaning the nest as I observe particles in his beak as he reaches in and flys away with something white. The eggs that are going to hatch must be done. The female hangs on the front; reaches in; then flys away, I assume, to gather food. I am not sure how many of the second set of seven eyes hatched. I have tried to get a peek but the two birds are very busy and frequently around the box. I have chosen to stay away to not disturb them. It has continued to be a joy to watch them at work. I hope to get an opportunity by the end of the week to observe the number of little birds in the nest. I'll be VERY CAREFUL when I open the box to see. A neighborhood cat has spotted the nest; yesterday I walked out toward the nest and it ran away. I'll keep an eye out for him. I like cats, but, certainly do not want it to harm the BB.
