bird feeder

I have 4 bird feeders 2 I full with sunflowers seed but I find iam geting tooooo many black birds in 2 days the bird feeders are empty I would like just cardinals and waxwings is there any food that I can buy for just those types of birds and which kind of food is best for the gold finches

Cardinals will eat safflower which grackles and blackbirds don't like. I usually switch to safflower to reduce the number of nuisance birds and have seen up to 8 pairs of cardinals at my feeder at one time. Waxwings I thought eat berries therefore I have never had them at my feeder so I am not sure what they would eat.

For Waxwings, I think you'd have to plant a fruit bearing shrub or tree. For the Goldfinches, you can feed nyjer seed. And as Lornas suggested, safflower should work to attract Cardinals, but not the nuisance birds.

I am having the same problem with the seed not dropping down. As I live in the NW I asssumed that the seed was becoming wet. i have a dome over the feeder and it still gets stuck. i become frustrated as well at continually having to move the seed down manually. I have noticed that is the seed that is next to the wall of the feeder is what becomes stuck. It is suggested that the plastic wall has becomes rough and is not allowing passage of the seed to move. I have tried scrubbing the feeder and the equipment with soapy water and bleach with a thourough washing afterward to no avIl! Mary Keith

5/8" is sufficient to exclude house sparrows, but allow American goldfinches, lesser goldfinches, house finches, pines siskins, and other small birds. 1/2" excludes house finches, but allows very small birds like lesser goldfinches. I'm not sure if American goldfinches would be able to fit on these perches since they are larger. We don't have them in my area. I use a Dremmel with a 409 cut-off wheel to trim metal perches. I have found this to be an extremely effective way to exclude larger birds from eating all my Nyjer!

They are constantly checking their territory for new food sources, so one or two of them blunder into the feeder and start eating, other birds see them eating and it's been discovered.

It's made of 7" duct. The shiny metal tubing you have in your home for heating and AC. I put 4 long nails into the wood. One on each side. It rests on the nails. I saw a squirrel on the feeder this morning. Not sure how it got up there. I think it either climbed inside the tube or it jumped from the fence. I have a counter measure for both.

ok thank for the information I just check the bags of sunflower seed One bag has just small black seeds the other bag had both the brown seed and the black seed but 90 percent black seeds so what I will do is buy a bag of salflowers seed which is the brown like type?
I also have pigions about 10 of them but they pick off the ground I put one bird cage away because tooooo many grackles
the tree in my backyard is a mulberry tree so the waxwing should come and eat hope the grackles don't scare them away
