Hey Anita, my eggs are 12 days today. Mom seems to be acting a bit different as of yesterday. She has been on the nest more and looks like she "jumps" or is startled every so often. I wonder if it is the babies in the eggs thumping around? She also seems to be doing a little re aranging in the nest. Just wondering if you noticed any of this behavior right before they hatched? I cant wait to see them hatch. This is my first time with a cam.

I didn't notice anything in particular, but have you noticed that she does a little "dance" snuggling down on the eggs (or the chicks)? I say she is doing the Tarantella, which for those who don't know is a distinctive Italian dance! My mama bird digs around in the nest with her tail straight up, I assume she is shaking the bugs down or cleaning the nest somehow. The kids look unhappy when she does this, sort of like the classic picture of the mother washing the kid's face with a washcloth and the kid grimacing! I know I'm weird but these are the things I think as I'm watching the nest! It's Saturday and we still have 3 babies and 2 eggs. Last time the mother removed the leftover eggs, and I guess she will do that this time too. Interesting that first nesting had 4 eggs, and 3 hatched, this nesting had 5 eggs and 3 hatched. i guess 3 is this bird's lucky number. Later!
