Good bye Dees, Hello Blues #2

Yesterday my 3 little Dees fledged 18 days after the 1st one hatched. Today, after finishing their nest a few days ago A Blue bird couple has laid their 1st egg. This is the 2nd nesting in this box. The last Blues fledged exactly 3 weeks ago. I don't know if its the previous tenants or not. Anyway, Im delighted I have been able to witness the wonders of nature thus far and I'm looking forward to the summer. Last year the last nesting was in August. Plenty of time for more. You are so lucky to have Chickadees nesting with you! I wish they would nest in one of my boxes, but I guess the good thing is that they are finding natural cavities. Mom and Dad always bring the babies to the feeders, so I get to see them.

Is there any tipoff to fledging day for dees? Over the last 2 or 3 days, I've had loud chirping from the babies and a pickup in the feeding by the male and female too. The female had been spending most of her time in the box.

My day count is way off.

This afternoon, a male blue tried to peek into the dee house and the male dee took him to the ground. They were both fine after the brief encounter.

Morz, I may have mentioned it before, but I do not think so, but I had the pleasure of seeing Justin's platinum album of "Nights in White Satin" at his studio in their London home when I was staying there. I know this is blatant name dropping, but I apologise, can't help it! teehee! Triple B - there should be a rose:) I think of many names they could have. Even Tuesday afternoon - that could be a lovely name for a rose, as well as Moody Blue, after me (just kidding), Nights in White Satin of course, Forever Autumn for a nice orange rose, etc. Oh and again, this is final! I agree with Mona--you did a great thing by helping him find his home. And you get extra points for the use (and correct spelling!) of the word "gambol". We don't hear that word often enough anymore--maybe because there's just not that much gamboling going on anymore? ...but it's so evocative, isn't it? :)

Well I just got back from a jaunt to Franks store and struck out on this product but did hit a home run cuz I found an ingredient that has been on my list for YEARS!!!' Canned Cherry Tomatoes!!!! I saw MaryAnn Esposito make a chicken dish using them and until now I have never seen them but alas, there they were on the aisle so I got 2 cans. I think the product may be found at tru Path Mark stores. Path Mark was recently bought out by Super Fresh and many stores were changed into Path Marks. There is a tru path Mark not too far from me so I will check there this week. "IF" I do find them I will be sure to buy as many as I can so I can share with pals here!! Cheers! Susie

Hmm, I was just pondering today - how do you post a new build kitchen reveal after you have lived there for a year and a half. What might that subject title be??? I guess I should have just done it without the backsplash but now that I am so close to doing that I might as well wait....or that was my thought process. Things do take much longer than you hope/plan. I thought I'd have the splash done this spring. Ha! edit: now you are bringing back memories - when we moved in no glass in the cabs and half the crown was missing and that took way too long than I care to think about. So yes, waiting for the splash. I have to admit I got all excited again when I saw your thread pop on the first page. So you aren't saying we have to wait until Thanksgiving are you! Are you? :O

This was my first experience with Dees. Sialis says they fledge on the 16th day. Mine fledged 18 days from the day the first one hatched. There were 3 eggs so it may be 16 days from the last hatched egg. The chirping and feeding did pick up about 5 days before they left the box. By the way they nested in a side opening, hanging, wren box. I bought it hoping a Carolina wren would nest in it. Maybe they will use it next. Good luck with your Dees. Let us know when they fledge.
