Good Bye Tuttorusso...Hello New Jersey!!!!

As far as canned Tomatoes go I know everyone has a brand they prefer. Me I am a Tuttorusso gal (I dont buy anything else) they are from Red GOld Company....Anyway I was shopping last week at Pathmark Supermarket and at the top of the sauce aisle the had a big display of 28oz can crushed tomato for 50 Cents a can...hmmmm I thought how bad can they be I pay 1.89 for my Tuttorusso....so I bought 10 cans.....OMG!! Best canned tomato I have ever had...and when I cook at the holidays I usually go to the Italian Market and by San Marzano...I dont know whats in New Jersey's soil but this is well worth the try...I made all my Holiday gravies and Marinaras from them and got RAVE REVIEWS!!!!! My niece who doesnt cook begged me to make her a couple of containers so she can load up her freezer with my Marinara! The can label is Red White and Green its says in large letters Made with Jersey Fresh "as fresh as it gets" Then in a band it says Ferrante's World Famous Vine Ripe....The best canned in my opinion Im actually going to write the company!!!!

As one who grew up in New Jersey, I know Jersey tomatoes....none better unless they are Iowa vine ripe!!
That's why they call New Jersey "The Garden State."

For a selection of perennials far more vast than Waterloo or "Terrain" could hope to stock, don't forget about Groff's Plant Farm in Lancaster Co. (they don't accept credit cards btw) Tripleoaks in New Jersey has a great selection of rare trees & shrubs. I feel like most people I know in the PA Philly suburbs have to cross to the NJ side somewhat often anyhow...just combine a trip there with some other errand, surely, and you no longer have to factor in the bridge toll.

Rocky is a big puppy to people he knows,or if your with me,he thinks he's a lap dog.Brutis is not as friendly to strangers,that's why he's on a logging chain.He has never bit anybody,I dont let but a few people near him.He is my guard dog,about a month ago two guys was trying to steal the copper from my central air unit and they dident know brutis could reach up to the units.It was about 3am when I heard the dogs barking,and I can tell when there barking at a person or some animal,the barks different.When I went outside to see what was going on,brutis had the two guys pinned in the corner of the fence.He dident try to bite them but he wouldent let them move.He sat there holding them in the corner,if one moved he would growl and they stoped moving.I called the cops and they came out and locked the two guys up.The cops told me,now that's a good guard dog.Some of the cops now want a pup of his,they were scared of brutis,they said that dog has strange eyes,they look straight through you.Brutis is a very smart dog,he knows about 10 commands.I run all my dogs 5 miles a day on a dog treadmill.They love it,the vet said my dogs were very healthy and happy dogs.Times have gotten so bad people will still anything they can get there hands on to make money.It's been going on far a long time in Atlanta,there stilling manhole covers from the streets,stilling from churches.They showed on the news where somebody had stolen all the central air units from a apartment complex.There is a small palm nursery in the next town over that I go to often.Last time I was there billy(the owner) told me someone stold three 25 gallon pindo palms during the night.He knows I sell pitbull puppies,and now he wants one of my dogs.I might trade for another big palm,I love the barter system.Your so right about keeping Uncle Sam out of the picture,they tax me to death already.I have to register my dogs with the city,but not the puppies :)

DO NOT SHOP HERE. Worst experience I have ever had with a nursery (and I have dealt with many of them). I ordered two bare root trees.. Several weeks later, one tree showed up completely leafed out with the leaves all dead. I placed it in water 30 min after it was on my porch and 5 hours later the leaves were all still obviously done. The second tree had a huge major crack in the main root. I sent the same attached pics to TyTy asking for a refund, and got a generic reply that because of covid 19 they where not responding to emails. I called two times and was put on hold for 20 min each time and never reached a live person. When I finally did talk to someone I was told they would need to discuss this with a manager. Later that day I was told that the crack in the root would likely eventually heal if planted, and the tree with the dead leaves had been potted before it was shipped, and it likely still alive and would shoot some new leaves if planted. That tree was not potted and it was dried out. I did not order struggling / damaged plants that were already going to go through transplant shock and might have a chance to survive. This is tree planting 101 and I have been treated horribly. I still have not received a refund, or offer or credit or replacement trees.

Just had a great alfresco dinner with DH on the porch after I got home from the YellowHammer. We had a Parker Sonoma white....grapefruit flavors...the wines I bought at the Green Market are WONDERFUL. I am planning on having some shipped to GA as that is OK legally...my DD will accept them at her address . I will tell DB you loved Buddy :)....the cat ?? Can't stop telling DS1 how great NYC food scene is....he is sold...now to get time off to bring him. c

Glad to hear you got great results!

I am due to make gravy so I'll have him get a few cans tomorrow so I can try it for myself.

As for Jersey soil...I plan to buy a hunk in the next few weeks!! There should be real Jersey tomotoes in my salsa this summer!!

I'm not surprised. I learned sometime ago the fact that two-thirds of the world's eggplant is grown in New Jersey.

Just curious - have you read the ingredients label? Is there sugar? Anything else?
I recently tried Cento's after seeing it mentioned here - yuck. I think this really is personal taste.

It's funny that NJ has a reputation for being very urban and "gangsterish" when it's really quite agricultural. Nothing beats a Jersey tomato, Jersey peaches, blueberries from Hammonton NJ and Jersey corn.

They just opened a Pathmark in Devon, PA, which I pass on my way home from work so now I can go to the "can-can" sales. I've never shopped Pathmark before.

Another Jersey girl chiming in - yep, we have the best tomatoes! After all, what made Campbell's tomato soup famous? Locally grown Jersey tomatoes.

According to their press release, "Jersey Fresh Crushed Tomatoes are a premium product. It is made with pure, ripe Jersey Fresh Tomatoes. There is no tomato concentrate, no puree, no citric acid, no water and no sugar. It is all spelled out on the label, and no other major brand can make this claim."

If I didn't have 80 quarts of my home-grown canned tomatoes in the pantry, I'd try some. Sounds good!

Well I just got back from a jaunt to Franks store and struck out on this product but did hit a home run cuz I found an ingredient that has been on my list for YEARS!!!'
Canned Cherry Tomatoes!!!!
I saw MaryAnn Esposito make a chicken dish using them and until now I have never seen them but alas, there they were on the aisle so I got 2 cans.

I think the product may be found at tru Path Mark stores. Path Mark was recently bought out by Super Fresh and many stores were changed into Path Marks. There is a tru path Mark not too far from me so I will check there this week.

"IF" I do find them I will be sure to buy as many as I can so I can share with pals here!!

This reminds me of a woman that was on Martha Stewart's show many years ago who canned and canned Jersey tomatoes. They looked so good. Her whole garage was filled with them.
