Beautiful pic!! One of my favorite birds next to the bluebird. I had RB nuthatches stay with me all winter this year ( I live in Michigan) first time I have seen them in 5 years. You are soooooo lucky to have them year round. By the way, they love peanuts :)

Love the picture! Such a personable little bird. I only see them occasionally during irruption years, but there were at least two here all last winter. I was surprised to see one again a few days ago but I expect them to be gone soon if not already. Maybe that one was migrating through. I'm in Plymouth, MA.

I have a peanut feeder filled with a mixture of shelled peanuts and peanut dough nuggets. This pleases the red-breasted and white-breasted nuthatches and lots of woodpeckers (I'm never sure who's eating what).

They are friendly, they come to me when I go on the deck.

I have one that first appeared last fall, and he has stayed with us. I only ever see one though. He is a busy little guy that takes and hides one sunflower seed at a time. As observed, he is very friendly.

I've had luck hand feeding titmice. I'll have to try to take down the feeder some morning or afternoon and see if the RB will come to me.

I have had a male that lets me walk almost all the way up to the peanut feeder (very slowly) before flying away. Once, I literally had to stand there until he was done before I could fill it.

I was at first concerned they were just passing through in the fall but they've stayed and I love them!
