Yay! Congrats on the chick! If you have any eggs that have yet to hatch, you might leave them an extra day or so, to catch any late bloomers. But mersiepoo is right, if there is some reason the chick doesn't make it out, it's usually best. :( I've only had to assist one chick out, and that was Bear, who is now our Head Hen. She was a very large chick in a very large egg, and we just picked a few pieces of shell from around her head once she'd pipped and it was clear she was in a bad position to hatch and couldn't turn in the egg like she needed to--then we returned the egg to the incubator and she finished up herself. But I'll never forget that little beak poking through the pipped shell and YELLING, then retracting and having a curious little eyeball appear at the hole. My husband was the first thing she saw and she's STILL bonded to him. :) Yesterday, Bear went broody, and picked a fight with our Beta Roo, Scott, who is a banty. She tussled with him so bad that he knocked one of the ends off one of his spurs, then he stood over it and looked at it, VERY confused. :) No real injuries, though, and today Bear is setting nicely on a nest. We haven't decided if we are going to give her some eggs to hatch or maybe some of the chicks from the incubator in 2 weeks. Velvet ~:>

Fascinating topic :). I have never been interested in make up, and so never got into much of it. Daily routine is, after washing face, to apply an SPF 30 moisturizer, brow pencil since I plucked most of mine as a teenager and they never grew back, and a dot of Dermablend cover on a small but very pale and noticeable circular scar above one eye where I had a skin cancer removed. Quit bothering with eye shadow and blush years ago, ditto with foundation which is also nasty to wear in the Miami subtropical weather; feels to me like wearing a greasy mask, yuck. Actually the climate here strongly mitigates against the multilayer face 'painting' I read about; cannot imagine plastering on primer/foundation/powder and then leaving it to bake all day especially during what I call our double 90 season (heat and humidity). Have never used lipstick, rarely mascara and never tried eye liner. Have never had an interest in Botox or any other type of intervention or surgical options and probably never will. I did Invisalign orthodontia several years ago; had lived with crooked teeth until I was 50+ YO and the feeling about my improved appearance/smile, along with the greater ease in keeping up with dental hygiene due to straight teeth has been immeasurably positive. I have my hair professionally cut and highlighted every 10-12 weeks. Wash and blow dry it every other day, use a straightening iron too often--as I'm aging my hair is developing that brittle overprocessed look that I hate to see. I need to up my use of hair treatments but just haven't bothered. What else--do my own pedicures, no manicures or nail polish on my hands. Did fingernail polish for years on my own but didn't like how it discolored the nails and prefer natural. I am in major stall on exercise; was doing Pilates regularly with a trainer but she closed her studio and I haven't found a group class with a good instructor on a schedule that works for me. At 58, I badly need to get myself into a regular schedule of cardio, stretching and weight training. Have never had to worry about weight but the tone and fitness lack is worrisome. I'd call myself diligent in keeping clean, tidy and looking reasonable but in many ways I like being in the stage of life at which I've become 'invisible'. It's very freeing in a lot of ways not to worry about trying to live up to whatever i social acceptability standard for appearance is out there for women these days :).

oldbat2be (I am lol'ing at your user name): Thanks! That isn't actually a grout sample, its a tile. I ended up going with a cream to match the stars. But I think I might do light grey with the white backsplash tile. Haven't yet decided.

For the moist part, they are there to help the surfaces shed water and to help maintain sanitary surfaces. You've gotten some good answers. Changes in plane are typically caulked. Caulk is flexible and can move when adjacent surfaces move independently of one another. Grout is rigid and can crack. Cracks in grout can be from movement...typically in corners, from differential movement...or because too much water was used in the grout mix or during clean up. Cracks in caulk are usually shrinkage cracks. Not enough caulk was injected in the crack for the caulk to properly bond to the adjacent surfaces...Or too much caulk was injected in a deep crevice, and as the too-deep mass of caulk cured and shrank, the shrinkage forces were strong enough to break the bond between the caulk and the edge of the tile, or they caused the caulk to crack right in the middle of the bead itself. For deep gaps that need to be caulked, a foam rope (backer rod) is inserted into the gap to reduce the depth of the gap. That allows the caulk to be injected in the gap at the proper width-to-depth ratio. Caulk texture? There both color- and texture-matched caulks these days. So if you have sanded grout, you can use a sanded caulk to help maintain joint texture between grout and caulk. Unsanded grout, use regular caulk. Repairs? In general, it's not wise to shmear a thin veneer of caulk over cracked grout. It's better to cut the grout away as best as you can and then properly fill the gap with color- and texture-matching caulk. With a Schluter shower, great care needs to be taken in cutting grout out of the joints. Go too deep and you can violate the integrity of the membrane. Your wall corners will have membrane behind them, with the membrane bridging from one wall to the other. In a non-steam shower, there is a chance that your wall-to-ceiling joints do not. Depends on the habits of the builder. The sooner the repairs are made the better. Grout hardness, ease of color-matching, etc. Good luck with your repairs.
