I finished off our last Kashi granola bar and thought I'd pick another box up at the store and they had been recalled! What good does it do to hang a sign on the grocery shelf where the recalled item used to be? Our pantries are full of this stuff and you buy it today and it's recalled tomorrow and who knows about it! I went onto the recall list a week ago (before two more processing plants were closed) and there were hundreds of products from candy to dog biscuits -- granola bars, cereal and cookies. Unbelievable that this could happen! I know I was sick for about a week, and that's not something that happens to me often. I'm wondering now if I didn't eat something tainted with salmonella that my body was able to throw off. Small children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are particularly at risk. I'm angry that this was allowed to happen in our country.

Information regarding the Grreat Choice® Recall With the recent FDA announcement of a salmonella investigation involving peanut butter products distributed through the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), we began working closely with all of our vendors to verify whether there are any implications for our customers and their pets through the products sold in our stores. Although we are not aware of any reported cases of injury or illness related to peanut butter products in our stores, we are conducting a voluntary recall as a precautionary measure and have removed these products from our shelves and website. Background Effective January 20, 2009, PetSmart® is conducting a voluntary recall of seven of our Grreat Choice dog biscuits (peanut butter and assorted flavors). We initiated the recall after determining these products sold between August 21, 2008 and January 19, 2009 contain peanut butter product linked to the salmonella recall announced by the FDA. While some of these products have been tested and no traces of salmonella were found, we have recalled these products as a precautionary measure. Because of the potential risk, we're immediately removing these products from our shelves and website. What Has Been Recalled? a follow-up: I subscribed to the government's food safety recall alerts without realizing that I would get several, yes several alerts each and every day! Thankfully most have been on brands and things I don't buy, never heard of, etc. but it certainly has me wondering "what the heck is going on with our food supply". Also, how do the people who do use those brands/products find out that there is a potential problem with something they have bought? From the alerts regarding the peanut butter, I still get a few each day because that particular peanut butter is used in a whole lot of stuff and it all has been recalled. everything from soups to baked items, in stuff from grocery stores to restaurants.
