I have a question???

18 years ago

My blues started making a nest in their house. They were so busy for days. Now they have suddenly disappeared. Is this something to be expected, or have they decided not to have their family in this house? I have never had this happen before. I checked everything out in the box and there are no flies or any other bugs. I do not have the mean birds that everyone talks about. I hope they decide to come back and have their little family in my house. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.

This happened to us last year...We thought our pair were gone. But I went to the front of my house and noticed they were making a new nest across the street. I knew for sure that my box was located in a hot area of my yard. The box across the steet was in a cooler spot. Sometimes these blues can be picky about a location. Just keep looking around everywhere for them. I even drove down steets around my house looking for them...I was heart broken when they left our box...she had been working on the nest for at least 4 days. But on the flipside our pair knew were the food supply was..and they still came over for worms.

Hope they come back for you. Do you know when the nest was complete? Usually there are a few days inbetween completion of the nest and the start of egg laying. I have a pair (that must have had a failed nest elsewhere) come and took awhile choosing a house, saw them first last Tuesday. Sunday (yesterday) she started nestbuilding, I don't recall ever seeing a nest built so fast. I looked this morning and it looks complete! I am hoping for an egg by the weekend. Hope you see your pair back and they didn't go elsewhere. I know how exciting it is to see them choose a nestbox in your yard.

Your idealism is touching, however, you will not be able to farm indoors without a lot of expensive equipment. And you for sure will not be able to feed even one child, let alone four. Think about feeding your family with beans, rice, and wheat. All these things come dried, and with a few inexpensive spices, like salt and pepper, and maybe a can of tomatoes, will be very tasty. Supplement with boiled potatoes, mashed, with added eggs and vegetable oil - at least you will know that your children will not grow up obese, be more healthy as adults, and they will be thankful for what they have. Indoor growing is mainly for herbs, cherry tomotoes, peppers, and if you are able to conceal it properly, cannabis. Also with cannabis, you are able to sell it and pay for some life necessities. However, if you get caught, the judge might confiscate ur children, so it might not be worth it. It just depends on whether you love them or not, and it sounds like you do. Sativa.

SJP, Don't dread.....is there anyone in your area that sells a heat matt for plants? If not look them up online....It is the HEAT that makes them root...The warmer the soil temp, the faster it will root. If you are not interested in using a heat matt, then take your cutting indoors since it is getting cooler out, it stick it in the sunnniest window you have. If your cutting is in dark colored pot, the sun will heat the pot up which in turn will heat your soil. Just keep your cutting warm with lots of lite ok...It will do fine... I would not water it though. Don't let any water touch your cutting unless you know for sure you have roots. Water at edge of pot instead if your soil is bone dry ok. Mike

How do you know you do not have "the mean birds that everyone talks about"? House wrens can be very sneaky, stealing an egg and taking it a distance away before dropping it.
