House Wren problem / my problem

We finally got a Blue Bird nesting this year after not having any last year. And they picked a box right outside our window - so it is nice viewing them. They laid their last egg on April 25 - so I knew they would be hatching this weekend. So I went out Sat. morning to check and see if they had hatched - and to my dismay - there were no eggs at all in the box. I immediately looked down, and there were all the broken eggs / egg. But not knowing they were going to be tossed out, I had stepped on a couple...... I felt terrible - I was able to save one baby, and an egg that was about to hatch. Anyway - both of the baby blues survived, and are doing well. But this is the first time I have seen a House Wren's destruction. And now I know to check around the box before I approach. I feel bad - but at least a couple will hopefully make it, and hopefully they will build another after this, and all will survive.
