Odd TRES Behaviour...anyone ever see this before??

We have been going through a very cold and rainy spell since last week Friday. Last night I was watching TV and some birds flew by the patio door very slowly. I jumped up and looked cause they seemed to be TRES but were flying rather funny so I watched them. There were three and they all flew over to one of the nestboxes (the one with three eggs laid Thurs/Fri/Sat) and all three of them went into the nestbox. It took them a bit cause they were flying so funny like with their wings down and just fluttering slowly and rather clumsily. I opened the back house door when they were flying around the box and they were completely silent. No fussing over an extra bird in the box, if this was the pair that laid the eggs. Then one flew out and then another, then the other. They all flew over to my daughters trampoline and perched for a bit, then there were four TRES. Then all four flew to the box again and all of them went inside, after just a bit one flew back out followed shortly by another. Two stayed in the box. Then the the second one out went back in and it stayed in, not sure where the fourth one went but it didn't come back. I watched for a good 5 minutes and none of the three came back out, I am assuming they are roosting for the night as it is getting dark. It is cold out, 38 and misting. Anyone ever see anything like this before? Were they flying so funny due to the cold?
