Bluebirds have declined here in RI

Hello Everyone!

I thought this would be one of the best years on record. Wow was i wrong

Not sure what happen to the many bluebirds that went south but every few if any returned. Not sure if drought or lack of food in southern states? And the ones that were here all winter left and went north after being feed all winter. I would like to know if others are reporting less bluebirds in the northeast. I have maybe 20 pairs and not sure how much longer I can continue to monitor and waste gas

for just a few bluebirds. I work with Martins and my progress with them has been excellent with growth yearly with the bluebirds its going in the other direction and rapidly. I have saved two females from snakes with the bird netting. And my box's all have noel wired so there deep. I hate to say it but

this maybe my last year after 23 years. I have 50 box's and i just hope i can

pick up a few more bluebirds I will not waste my time for a trail of less than

25 pairs. And the last few years its been just over 25 pairs. So we will see

what happens. Very sad after all these years.

Ray
