I have two checklists from yesterday ready to submit - one of the feeder birds in my yard and one of some Common Eiders on the bay. I'm waiting for the tide to be right to go check the local salt marsh; I'm hoping to find Green-winged Teal as well as other waterfowl. I've reported the teal every year for the last few years.

Monday is my usual Project FeederWatch count day so I'll submit that count to GBBC as well. I don't want to keep submitting the same feeder birds, but I want to report some regulars that haven't shown up yet (Wild Turkeys, Coopers Hawks and Red-breasted Mergansers among others) and I always see something new at the marsh.

I'm trying to give a representative count for my town. Others will count too, of course, but not everyone sees the same birds.

Usually I count at a few local spots as well as from my windows, but I thought twice about it this year. When I thought third, though, I realized I need to start up my car anyway and drive when it gets really cold (I don't have a garage) so I decided to check one of those spots by car (in warmer winters I walk there). I drove to the marsh and took pictures from the side of the road. This is my local marsh where I saw about thirty Mallards and thirty-five Dunlins today in a very cold setting. Roselee, I think the waxwings are all at our house, lol. Though, they've just about finished the tree off. We had a Cooper's hawk scare them away one day, but they came back to our tree two days later. I'm not familiar with that butterfly, but I'll bet it's beautiful. We've not had any butterflies at all, but we'll be down at the Butterfly farm this weekend... can't wait. (Daniel, if you're looking in, we'll be down in your neighborhood.) Final Summary for GBBC 2017 dated March 3, 2017 "Thank You For the Biggest GBBC Ever Once again participants from around the world set new records for the number of species identified during the four days of the Great Backyard Bird Count, for the number of checklists submitted, and the number of estimated participants.
