Platform feeder recommendations

I'd like to attract more birds to my yard with a platform feeder. I've never done this before so I'm looking for recommendations.

I'd probably get a hanging platform.

I've read the best place for these is in the middle of the yard (no evergreens there), but we have chicken hawks in the area, so I keep my feeders hidden from their view (the feeders are in my back yard, the chicken hawks nest in the city trees in the front of the house - I've seen them a few houses down.)

I haven't seen Chicken Hawks charging any birds at my feeders.

So, I'm wondering if placing this closer to my home in a more sheltered area is best. I have an idea next to an evergreen tree, but there will also be occasional traffic (near our back door). Will that be ideal?

Do you recommend a covered platform feeder? I'd also like it squirrel proofed.

Should I keep this in an area away from my suet feeder, or doesn't that matter? On my garage I have a wild bird feeder. Next to my house is a suet feeder where I usually see the Juncos and Chickadees.

What should I plan to feed?
