blizzard of 2013 sad effects

People in the northeast will notice what happen to
the bluebirds,robins,flickers...... large numbers have been
decimated the snow pack of the blizzard cut off food supply's those bluebirds not at feeders have perished.
I walked miles and could not hear or see not one bluebird
and very few robins. Nest box's that have been used for over 20 years. The month of May will bring in the yearlings
they will replace the older birds lost and those towns that
produce large fledge totals will see these yearlings first as they return to the towns where they have fledged.
Years with heavy snow pack are followed by a crash of our semi-hardy song birds. If you have a bluebird pair
count your self lucky. Of the 30 pair of 2012 I am left with close to 10 pairs the numbers will grow into the month of june as more younger birds fly in. In a normal
season these birds are driven off to repopulate other towns. They will return and find many of there flock missing and have prime nest sites. That would other wise be Occupied. I have seen this event many times
over the year. I will be over joyed when May and June get here and the box's filled once more. The meadows
in the northeast have fallen silent but not for long.
The next generation is in route. ---Ray
