Research results on Western Bluebirds

I thought some of the readers of this forum might be interested in my results from a 4-year research project I conducted investigating nest survival of Western Bluebirds using tree cavities. The results were published last year in the scientific journal Condor and can be accessed at the link below on my webpage.

One of the interesting things I noticed is that of 154 nest attempts I monitored, I never documented a case of a House Wren destroying eggs or taking over a cavity with an active bluebird nest...even though they are a common breeder in the habitats I was working in. However, I have documented one loss of a Mountain Chickadee nest to a House Wren.

I hope you find my results of bluebirds using natural cavities interesting as most work published on Western Bluebirds, and most people's experience with this beautiful species, is through nest boxes.
