For a change this year we had a very wet spring through mid summer then it all stopped. The ones in the front yard are in sandy loam but I keep them watered. Back in the spring I had a lot of aphids and some of the leaves were deformed and they bloomed very late where other peoples daylilies were blooming. I caved in a gave them a shot of fertilizer that has something it to keep aphids off after that they bloomed. Where I try to be organic the aphids just would not leave. In the back yard the soil is clay but I've added compost, this bed had not had any daylilies in it till this year and one's I'd gotten from a local swap only one tiny fan bloomed twice this summer. Some of the other daylilies I got in the trade have not bloomed but the fans are really getting big and healthy looking so next year I hope to see what they are cause the person that gave them to me had no name on them. I'm blaming some of the lack of blooms on very little sun in the spring up into July it was cloudy most days or partly cloudy and by the time the sun came out it was past the bed where the daylilies are. I've never had the lack of blooms before like I have this year and some are new but still my stella O'dor has been in the bed for four years and it looks like it's getting smaller instead of larger, not spreading. The Banana daylilies I have spread like wildfire but little bloom this year. It's only their second year but I'm wondering if they need to be thinned out? Barb

True Linda - they are not yellowthroats - only looked a bit like them. I saw one in Nova Scotia 2 years ago (attached) and was reminded of it.
