And this old lady is thrilled. It has been raining for over a hour. You can hear the plants sighing.

It missed us again :(

It misted for 20 mins and passed us yet again. I went out for dinner and 3 streets over, it was pouring!

Jessaka, Good point that we need to be thankful for the rain we're receiving! OK, y'all, I'm not as much in the mood to dance today. Our ground is still very, very wet and I want to get some planting done after the Sunday-Monday cold spell passes. It rained lightly here last night, but I haven't looked at the rain gauge yet. I don't expect that we got much rain....but we really needed it at PRECISELY that point because we had 6 or 7 fire departments out fighting 2 wildfires at the time the rain started. Talk about rain falling just when it was needed! I tilled three raised beds yesterday, working last year's decomposed mulch (now pretty much just compost with a few chunks of bark) into the soil. It was still pretty damp, but wasn't wet until you got 6 to 8 inches below the soil surface. I was racing the rainclouds....could see them coming and knew if I didn't till those beds, I wouldn't be able to plant in them on Monday. Now, they may be wet from last night's rain, but they're "ready to go" as soon as they dry out a little. There's more rain in our forecast for today and for later in the week. After watching what has been going on with the flooding, especially in Missouri, I am grateful that we received only heavy rains here and no flooding. Dawn

Joellen, That was cute. I'm glad y'all got the rain. I did sleep and didn't wake up and do any canning during the night either, although I probably should have. I have a lot to do early this morning. I sure was hoping I'd awaken to the sound of raindrops hitting the roof, but it didn't happen. I watched the radar last night and was hoping rain would reach us, but it all stayed just about 10-15 miles west of us, barely touching the far western end of our county. The county (Jefferson County) immediately west of us had heavy rain and now has a flood advisory, and I'm glad they got the rain because they have been really dry there and were starting to have pasture fires and hay bale fires. Hopefully the rain they got will stop those fires for a while. Suzie, I hope some of that rain found you. It sure looks like a lot fell over much of our fair state. Carol, I'm glad the hail missed you. It would be so distressing to have hail hit when the tomatoes are starting to ripen. The most fruit I've ever had on an oxheart was 3. They may like your soil and climate better than they like mine, but I've never had one produce enough here to earn a return invitation for a second season. We want to see a 'BLT Alert' when you get have that first one. On the radar this morning, rain is all around us, but not falling here. Maybe some of the rain will eventually get here. I'm watching Alex's storm track as it emerges from the Yucatan peninsula and out into the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe if it hits in/near Texas, it will send gulf moisture our way. By saying that, I'm not saying I want Alex to intensify to hurricane strength and hit the coast, but I'd love for the tropical storm system to send us a little moisture. Dawn

I missed your ammonia paragraph, Skybird, oops, shows I should read more carefully. Last week, my DD managed to kick a soccer ball into a bush with resident wasp nest and was stung when she retrieved the ball, ran into the greenhouse and slapped a paper towel with ammonia on it, and that was that. And for those who have fungus gnats in their houseplants/seedling starting stuff, that BT israelensis takes care of them very nicely. I order a 20 oz batch, and it lasts several years. When I start my seedlings, I sprinkle a couple of grains of the stuff in each cell, and no more fungus gnats. Here is a link that might be useful: link

Billi is it usually very dry where you are in Australia? I wonder how your daylilies do , as that is the reason I got into daylilies myself 10 years ago . Where I am located I watch the storms go north of us one day and then south of us the next it seems. I grow in very difficult heavy clay soils so after many years of trying to fight the status quo here I decided to try daylilies as my ditch lilies did marvelously well while hundreds of dollars of other plants did not . In late July and in August you can sometimes find cracks in the ground large enough to lose your foot in it is so dry here . I was delighted to discover that daylilies dont seem to mind drought nor do they mind the heavy clay soil . The only one who does mind is me ( makes for some very hard work to dig up a big clump!) It is still raining! So far 2 inches. What a treat! I can't remember that last rain we had, maybe 2 months.

Hey everybody, we got some rain too for a change. The rain guage shows 3/4 inch. This makes about 10 inches since October.

That must be pretty accurate because I stuck a trowel in the ground and an inch below the surface it's bone dry.

But I'm not compaining. Every little bit helps! And it cooled things off nicely.

I was RV'ing at Canyon Lake yesterday and woke to rain. We drove threw rain until south of SA, then there was no more for us. It rained just across the bay from us over in Refugio. We got none, but could hear the thunder and smell the rain. Sigh!

Nothing in Austin where I live. It seems like it was pretty hit or miss here. I tried.... I left the laundry out on the line and the car windows down an inch or so, but nothing doing....

LOL Lovek, We got a little rain last week and I had left the windows down on the car....works everytime.

We haven't had much rain mostly a teases...luckly if it got half an inch at one time.

Fall is getting closer so hopefully the rain will come.

Forecast says rain Friday through Monday at 30% chance.

We got RAIN! Poured like crazy most of morning, Harborside flooded and everything. I can hear the plants singing from here.

Yeah Tally. It rained hard for about 20 minutes. Best we've had in months. I had to dig out an umbrella to go out and shut off the sprinklers. Best gardening experience I've had all year.

We had 2/3 of an inch here. Hallelujah! Those rain showers sure breath life into a dry year like this was!

We had a good shower about a mile from my house. Nothing here.. boo hoo. I missed out again. I'm gonna grow dust next year and I bet it will rain then, lol.
