Where are all the winter birds

I live in Saskatchewan and the birds this year are almost non-existent. At first I thought it might be because of the bitter cold we have had. But the weather has warmed up some but still no birds. I get 4-6 chickadees that come every so often; sometimes every day, some times every other day. But they don't seem to come more than once or twice during the day. I've had 6 blue jays show up every couple of weeks or so. And really surprising is no HOSP, not that I am disappointed about them, but it is so weird that there are no birds. Last year was the year of the redpoll; I had about 60 of them and with them came other birds like a house finch couple, downy woodpecker, nuthatches, chickadees and HOSP. But this year, not one redpoll, no nuthatches; just very few birds in general. I had a downy coming earlier but one day the blue jay chased him away and he hasn't been back since. I sure miss my birds. I have so much feed for them but nobody to eat it. I have shelled BOSS, shelled peanuts and unshelled peanuts, and 4 things of suet. Nobody is really touching the suet either. I thought with the really cold weather that the suet would draw the birds, but no, nothing. Is anybody else having the same problem? Where or where are all the birds?
