Just curious, not trying to be sarcastic or anything but what exactly did you think another bird would/could do? I am not sure what a bird could do to help another bird that struck a window but in the wild they don't do anything, just like you saw.

Best thing to do if you see a bird that has struck a window is, if it can grasp yet with its feet, is to put it in a tree away from the ground where a predator can get it. I like to put them in a brown paper bag with a towel in the bottom or in my dd's screened bug catcher with a towel in it. Both of these I put in my dark garage and leave them be for about 1/2 an hour, then I check on them. If they are alert I let them go, if not I wait a bit again. In most bird strikes once they recover from the shock to their heads in about half an hour or so, they will fly away. Sometimes depending on how they hit they die pretty quickly. They are very vulnerable though while they are recovering which is why they shouldn't be left on the ground where predators can easily get them. Good luck, hope your Blue Jay was ok.

Donna is right. There is nothing any other bird could do. I have vinyl stickers on my windows now to avoid window strikes, and so far it has worked really well.

Birds can't help another bird when they collide with windows. Usually the advice is to cover the bird with a box so that it calms down. If the injury isn't serious, it should recover on its own. If not, there's probably nothing you can do either.

A Mourning Dove actually splatter his head on my window last year. Afterwards, I pasted a lot of little gel stickers on the window. I haven't had a collision since.

I had a woodpecker fly into my window. Unfortunately, it died. I didn't want it to happen again so I asked here and was told about the UV reflecting decals you can buy. These are supposed to be like a stop sign for the birds. I went out and bought some and put them up right away. We have had one more strike but it was like a glancing blow. I went out and checked but the bird had apparently flown away. IMHO, these decals work. Marg

Window strikes are heartbreaking. I had one fatal last year when a juvi Oriole hit so hard it broke it's beak. It was a quick death upon the strike thank GOD. I have stickers on most of my windows but this was a side of the house that does not usually get strikes. I will say in winter a box is not enough , they can go into shock and will need to be brought in to be kept warm untill they are ready to fly. A paper bag with a towel in the bottom set on a heating pad on LOW in a quiet place is the best advise. Obviously never un attended. Other birds have no way of helping.
