When we first moved here we never saw hummers and I had lady in red salvia seeds and through them everywhere (don't do this!) LOL
As soon as they started blooming, within a week we had 6 hummers. The salvia is EVERYWHERE now but they love it
The favorite is Flame Acanthus,but they love all of the salvias
When the bottlebrushes are blooming, they barely leave them
they actually are on everything out there,the desert willow and chitalpa have had blloms all spring and summer and they love those too.
The crossvine, when blooming brings in several new guys but they all don't stay but we have a lot and you hear them all day squeaking or clacking when they spar
Hop in the car and come get some, lol

Just saw a hummer on my Turk's cap this morning. It blooms all summer.

They like Dicliptera suberecta, too, known as hummingbird plant. It blooms about 4-6 weeks in the summer. I can't remember if it blooms again in the fall.

Here they love the pink turk's cap better and they are all over the esperanzas, yellow and orange and the tall ruellas and I don't know how I forgot the red yucca and the blooms last so long

My favorite is the hamelia. Firebush!

I love to see it growing with plumbago. The hummers go nuts over it.

Trumpet creeper tough as a rock. The hummers come to it each day before sundown. They even land on the oak branches and take a break and start all over again.

Janie, does your hamelia die back in the winter down your way and when does it bloom?
Mine die back and might have a few blooms before it is winter, lol

It will die back and come back in spring. It starts to bloom about the last part of May and blooms until frost. It will bloom continually, just gorgeous!

We had some huge ones at the courthouse in Edna, our county seat. The smart maintenance man (previous, not present) let a trustee 'trim' them. I went sailing by and caught something "not quite right" out of the corner of my eye, and had to go around the block to get a good look. That fool had cut our big beautiful hamelia bushes into boxwood hedges! I was fit to be tied! I was so mad I had to set out being a part of the delegation that went to the Commissioner's Court about it!

Maybe you should have your soil tested. It's just not natural for firebush to not bloom so much it glows!
