Birds have started coming to my feeders & I can't identify very well yet. Today & yesterday a medium-size bird with bright blue feathers and tan breast was eating shelled nutmeats. It was not a bluejay; I do recognize jays. I have never seen a bluebird & thought they stayed in unpopulated rural areas (people are encouraged to put up bluebird boxes in the country). With this scanty info, can anyone guess what I saw? I am in Eugene OR.

I suspect a male Western Bluebird also. Incidentally, your "Blue Jay", is also a Scrub Jay, or Stellars Jay.

Ok...so I believe Google helped me ID this as a zebra finch. Looks like it's native to Australia! Must be someone's escaped pet? Wonder how he's doing today? He's a long way from home here in NE FL.

Its a duck, a green wing teal I believe. Birds have a number of predators, small and medium mammals, other birds, reptiles. Could be a hawk or owl, or a cat or fox or raccoon. Squirrels even will raid nests I believe.

Thx for the input. I googled western bluebirds and also looked at Terrene's suggested site, but the bird I saw did not match exactly. It's breast was completely light tan with no blue belly. It did not actually eat at the feeder, but picked up nutmeats and flew off with them, so I had a good view of it's entire breast/belly.

Is any other bird bright blue?

I'm looking for my bird identification book so I won't have to annoy you with bird ID questions as more birds come to my feeders. I can, however, ID the squirrels that are flocking to my yard now!
