I have been having very good luck injecting my pumpkin vines with BT. Takes a lot of vigilance and is time consuming, but it is working well.. I go out and look for entry points every two or three days and inject. I inject the BT at several points, both above and below the entry points, I have cut off a few leaves a couple of days after injecting and found the dead worms in the leaf stem, so it does work, it is just a challenge to keep up with and requires thorough coverage of the vines. The sections of the vine that have been damaged go from pale white back to green within a few days of injection, indicating the worm is dead and has stopped feeding.

$400 per 1,000 square feet is a lot to start with. Couple that with the fact that they are going to till (highly NOT recommended) and probably dig up your sprinklers doing that (they will offer to replace them for the full price of a new sprinkler system). By the time they leave they will be into you for at least $3,000. I would stay away from them at all costs. Slit seeding into existing lawn is a good idea. The slit seeder will dethatch and pull up all the dead stuff. That chaff needs to be swept away and then do the actual seeding. Keep in mind that spring is a poor time to be starting a new lawn from seed. The only worse time is summer. The best time is the end of summer. If you can hang on with a weedy/needy lawn until late August, then you can spend money getting good seed and doing it right. If you seed now you will be seeding again in the fall anyway because new spring seedlings usually cannot stand up to the heat and moisture stress of summer. Do it right in the fall and next summer you will be okay.

From what I've read many times, ten or more grubs per square foot is a problem. Less than that, a healthy lawn would not ordinarily show damage. So you are lucky to only find 5 in 600 square feet. No need to treat your lawn for grubs. Bill Hill

Thanks Bass, I believe our grass is a tall fescue mix. They're saying the size of our front yard is 7,000 sq ft. but when I do a measurement (90w x 50d) I think they must be adding in the back yard - but our gate was closed so I don't know how he put that in there. (He was supposed to show up on Monday when DH was home - didn't and then came yesterday when DH was not home and left the paper). They didn't say what type of fungus it was - it looks like it has a blueish tip. The whole problem started with when the tech was out last week for the fertilizer application that's all he was going to do. DH had to tell him about the weeds! So he sprayed for the weeds. ($65) The tech should have noticed that - they're supposed to inspect the lawn. Except 5 minutes after application it pours rain. So DH called the business and asked about if the weed killer was going to be good after the rain since it was a spray. They said wait and see if the weeds die. If not, they will redo. Then it's 2 days later we find the grubs. And it is noticible in the lawn the damage. Again, the tech should have noticed this. So when DH called he wanted the owner to come out to look at the lawn. So right now we are not happy. Twenty years ago I had a house with a beautiful lawn. Key ingredients were - sprinkler system/fertilizer schedule/proper mowing. With this house we tried for 9 years without the sprinkler system and our lawn was nice but not "beautiful". Last year we bit the bullet and had it installed. Reseeded and now on professional fertilization plan. They tell us our lawn will look like a golf course and it looks like it did last year. Don't understand.
