shrimp cocktail shrimp plant as hardy, drought tolerant?

Has anyone grown this in North Texas? It's absolutely stunning, but I'm considering it for a location where it will basically have to fend for itself once established. Some summers it may get a bit of extra water, but other years it won't. I also like the "regular" shrimp plant and the red one, and I really need a tough plant here.

I'm also considering a Turks Cap for this spot, which has light shade and sandy soil. It gets pretty much full sun in the winter. How does the turks cap compare to the shrimp plant for ease of maintenance?

I'm assuming that October will be the best time to plant any of these.
