Some editing of the FAQ's is possible but the size of them is limited. Plus whenever anyone tries to get too specific in them the objections to what should or should not be included increase. You can see that by the differing opinions in the discussion thread. ;) So in general it is best to keep them as basic as possible - kind of an introduction to the topic - and then go into the details in subsequent discussions.

But you can easily save any really valuable discussions by using the "Clip the post" tool to the right of each post. You can save them to your personal page and then just link to them as needed. That is what many of us do. ;)

It wouldn't be possible to put that thread in the FAQ's unless ALL links to anything commercial sites are removed b/c those links are prohibited.

Since I was the initial person who after a lot of hemming a hawing volunteered to spearhead the project whereby we did add several of the new FAQ's, I'll come back tomorrow and say a bit more.

It's been a very long day here on a number of fronts which was capped off late this afternoon when the cutest little black bear was on my deck trying to get at the bird feeders.

I don't worry that much about a small bear, but mama has to be around some place, and well, I don't need that. First bear sighting for me at my place although others in the area have seen them.

Meanwhile, what particular pests info is wanted that isn't in the Common Tomato Pests FAQ? You already know hornworms and aphids I know. ;)

I didn't understand the culture of the FAQ, and the complicated business of adding to them, so please, don't use any more time on my suggestion.

Sorry about the bear(s), Carolyn. Hope they have moved on. Otherwise the bird feeder(s), sadly, may have to follow bear hibernation schedules. Hope you won't need pepper spray..... Or a shotgun w/rubber bullets for a salute to mamabear's rear end.

Nope, you didn't understand me correctly. LOL

No article in the FAQ's can contain a link to anything, be it a seed source, pest and disease place, etc. There is no permission given to circumvent that, and the reasons are several but I won't go into them here.

Spike, his public name, who owned DG before he sold it, was head honcho here when folks here were doing the FAQ's and since via contract he stayed around to help the new owners I'm pretty darn sure there have been no changes in that regard since there have been little to no changes in any of the verbiage elsewhere at this site..

And apparently there's no way to do a sticky here. At almost all places where I post one can develop a list of links for seed sources, buy plants via mail, etc., but that can't be done here at GW.

In the pest and disease Forum is a valuable Problem Solver II and we wanted that to stay at the top as a sticky and that can't be done either.

As for how to save seeds, it starts with the FAQ article on how to prevent X pollination. How to process seeds via fermentation or TSP or whatever comes next. And for that I suggest that folks save the thread that Dave has linked to a number of times re that issue and post it when someone asks how to ferment seeds or whatever.

And it does get complicated to add to the FAQ's b'c it has to be one person to do so, hopefully someone that folks here know and respect, that person has to be approved by management and given the codes for uploading, etc. But before that even happens there has to be approval, or should be, by the current posters here so they have an opportunity to add delete, etc.

It might be suggested that one person should write FAQ's, up load them and that's that. I disagree with that very much b'c all you get is that one person's viewpoint of the issue and that's not something that I and many others can agree with.

And it takes ages, sometimes, to get agreement on what will be written and reviewed publicaly and then uploaded.
