You got a pic! Yes, it is climbing Hydrangea. It is a wonderful plant, but that's an odd spot for the vine. It is a slow to get established grower, but it becomes a very large plant. I don't consider it one to keep cut to such a small stature as some plants can be either. Maybe others would disagree though? Remy

It is appealing to me... but would want to pair it with several other plants ... something that could climb and weave through it like blue geraniums, something else with different shades of green like lady's mantle, something else to add interest and height like irises, something else to add to the airy quality of China roses like certain alliums (they could also add to the green color), maybe even some artichokes to add to the look of the bloom. Each of those have something that could help bring out the beauty of it. In my yard, that's just too much water. Otherwise I would go for it. I think by itself, without other companions, it just doesn't look as beautiful as it could.

Try running the pad of your index finger slowly over the underside of an affected leaf. I'd guess you'll feel a lowered area that corresponds to the gray. That argues for a rasping herbivorous insect. Try putting a sheet over the roses at night and see if you interrupt the critters dropping onto the leaves (they would still be on the sheet in the morning.) Then go after the ones on the roses (that often are subtly colored). Way back when, dusting with sulphur was a low teck option.

Thanks Kylie. Freckles has the most unusual variegation I have seen in a brugmansia. It thrives here in Central Florida so it should do good in Texas. There are several photos of it in the ibrugs photo gallery linked below. The blooms on Freckles are not as nice of those of Axel Rose. I would grow Axel Rose even if it did not have the variegation because it blooms like crazy and remains relatively pest free. Another unusual thing about Freckles is that it produced a couple of seedlings with the same variegation. Unfortunately I lost both of them in the freeze a year ago. I plan to make a bunch of crosses this spring in hopes of finding a few more variegated seedlings. My new website is being built out now and should have plants available before the end of the month.
