Has anyone successfully sent an email via GW?

Just curious, but I have had several folks try to send me email via GardenWeb and I have not received any of them. Neither does it appear that any of my emails have reached other members. I also know this is not restricted to myself as many others have reported this problem. I'm going to be making a seed offer here for the Mystery Black variety I grew this spring but I don't want to do it if some or all folks participating are not able to send or receive messages.

Has anyone else successfully sent or received email via GardenWeb? Would some folks mind sending me a few test emails?

Yes, I was able to send an email using GW, but it seems it hit or miss. Usually missing.

I don't know if GW has anything to do with it, but suddenly about half of the responses I am getting through GW are being intercepted as being questionable and going to my 'Junk' folder. This never happened until recently. I haven't changed anything in my spam filter, and in fact, some of the emails are from people who have sent me mail that prior to this got through just fine. But I'm not against all corporations because I don't perceive everything as corporate greed or evil, some, yes. But with all due respect, I believe banning personal ownership of cars is too extreme. I don't feel like I hog more than my share of the world's resources with my old, small car which I drive very seldom. I cherish the right to own one car at a time of my own and love the freedom it gives me even though I'm aware of the risks and downside. What I cherish for myself, I could not be complicit in imposing on others (sure feel like it sometimes with crooks, drug runners, speeders, drunk drivers, maniacs on the roads and too many semis and large vehicles now). The interstate system was supposed to be safer we were told, and indeed it seemed to be in the beginning, liked the older roads but felt safer on the uglier, not-very-scenic interstates and freeways. Not any more. The little people would be the first to lose their rights and not only if cars were banned.

Hi. I too have been getting LOTS of e mails but if I don't recognize the e mail I just delete it without having a look. Generally I have had less than nice GW trade experiences. The *very* nice people in the carnivorous plants forum are OUTSTANDING with the things they trade! All beautiful, healthy and very cool kinds of plants. Two very nice and generous people in the Tropical and Brommie forums have fantastic plants and give far more than what would be normally considered as a trade. More gift giving! :-) Other people ....... I have sent plants o' plenty to several people and although they did e mail me a thank you and how great my plants were and promised me seeds and or plants they had promised .... YEARS later I am still waiting. (Not really) but they did promise many times and there was always some excuse for the delay. I sent someone many very nice orchids, some were even either in spike or bloom, and in return I go a banana plant that was severely damaged admittedly by the sender due to poor technique in digging the pup. It wasn't even the kind of banana I had been promised! :-( I do have lots of plants but have severely limited the people to whom I will send them. I'm not even doing the planty trade thing any more. Just sharing some interesting plants with people who I consider friends. I think other people have had less than great trades too but there are very nice and honest people out there. Sometimes ya just gotta get lucky. Hope you find someone who is honest and you get nice healthy plants from your next trade! C3D

It is my understanding that the daylily rust was brought in by the nursery trade, in a situation where quarantine was (inadvertently or otherwise) not exercised properly. Bringing seeds in is more of a worry if the seed is a weed species, or if the seed itself is dirty - contaminated by bacterial or insect pests. There are very few diseases that will be brought in with clean seed. Importing plants is a much higher disease risk. I agree though, that we should not encourage those people who might be trying to avoid the normal, legal methods of plant importation.... just because they want a particular plant. Re importing stuff in containers - we bought slate in castlemaine, that had been imported from india. The crates are supposed to be inspected before leaving india, but the crate previous to ours contained live lizards (hitchhikers) and when we finally got our slate, there was a dirty knife in the crate all the way from india. They are truly slack, and it is amazing that we don't have far more problems that we do.

Done also. I routinely send perhaps one or two per week to other members through G.W. and have had no problems, that I am aware of.

Thanks for the feedback.

Nothing yet. Still have not received any email via GW. I did receive an email from Christy recently so I know it's not my email account....she replied to an email I sent directly to her - not through GW though.

I've check my preference on my GW profile...I'll go check again.

Okay folks,

If someone would not mind sending a couple more, I'll see if anything will happend. I went ahead and retyped my email address in my profile and then saved. I'll check and see if I can send myself an email from here.

Hi Trudi,

I've been keeping an eye on the junk mail box but nothing there either and still nothing in the inbox. I'm just about ready to give up. Maybe I'll try creating another email account and add that to my profile.

Got it Bill. Just replied to you a couple of minutes ago. Now if I could just figure out what the issue is with someone sending me a message via GardenWeb. As I indicated above, I sent one to myself and never got it. However, I think as long as I know my email is getting through, I can make the seed offer work.

Still nothing. I've also noticed that some of my GW profile changes are not being saved though it is telling me that they are. My email is correct in my profile....maybe I need to start all over with a new account.

Seems to be unreliable. My experience over the last two years has been hit-or-miss.

Thanks to all for attempting to send email. It just will not work. Still, I'm going to make the seed offer work one way or the other and I will probably just go ahead and post my email address so folks can send their info directly.

Are you using an address that differs from your regular one just for GW? If so, I had the same problem. Finally called my server and found that it was not hooked up although it was supposed to be. Once this was done all works well. However, for some reason that address is recognized for GW email only. Strange.

Just sent another...it takes time for any changes you make to appear. See if this one shows up?

I've seen other people post their e-mail but write "at" as the word not the symbol @, I guess to avoid spam.

Like susie at aol dot com, etc...

You could try that.

Jay was able to send to me using my page and I could then answer him, or he got another email address to me to use. Either way, we were able to establish communication.

You can also make your e-mail visible... then anytime you post, it would show up in your "posted by" line... like:

...but the e-mail address will be clickable--this way anyone can contact you thru their e-mail client program in case thru GW doesn't work... but you're wide-open to receiving more spam that way.
