2013 MNF (Make New Friends) Schedule In Need Of Hosts

Hey everyone!

October is already here and before we know it Christmas will be too. I figured we better start getting our ducks in a row for next year.

This is to set up a tentative schedule for the Make New Friends Trade Group. Everyone and anyone is welcome to take a spot at hosting. Just please try to commit to your month you choose.

You don't have to have a theme for your month before you pick one. You can come up with something later. And if you want to sign up for more than one that's okay too.

ok sorry about that, i'll clean out my cache and cookies again, LOL that'll probably fix it?? awesome!! talla will love it, she's so happy about her fairy garden. we have to start on the other one in the actual garden. where all the crabgrass is. LOL that sounds like an awesome box emily/april :')) an aweful lot to plant!! LOL HEE HEE i bet your gonna have some amazing fun!!!! LOL i know that these guys are gonna have some fun pretty soon with their planting. i'm absolutely out of that now, just the transplanting only. they do the rest now. its much to hot/humid for me. and we've been staying up to late. i got a lashing (not really) from the prison guard (ol man) LOL (that's what he does in real life so i tease him about it LOL) but on the other hand the house has been getting cleaned up some more and i am so happy and it has been getting some organizing to, this is what i'm NO good at, in fact my kiddo's are better at it than me. LOL it would seem that i have taught them something after all. LOL hmmmmm imagine that!!! LOL HEe hEE EhE LOL how is this gas problem affecting everyone else?? my mom said she had heard from somewhere that by the end of the year it will be 7 bucks a gal. so hubs is trying for a job 15 miles away. we are praying that the job pays a decent amount, at least enough to pay the bills. i will be happy. :')) i'll start making LOTS more homemade stuff!! LOL i definately don't have a prob with that. the laundry soap was the biggest saver and the laundry rinse was the biggest saver. ok that's all i can think of now, so your prob thinking now, WHEW get her off the soap box NOW!!!! I hosted Christmas last year and our cabinets didn't go in until the week of Dec 12th, so later than you. Mind you, I didn't really consider that the install would go late and I managed the schedule like a hawk. If you are GC'ing it yourself (which I was also) you should plan your schedule in detail in advance and have the subs committed to your dates in advance. Then the single most important thing you need to do is to have everything ready on each day for the pertinent subs, and be available to answer any questions or deal with any issues/decisions that need to be made (and you'll be surprised just how many there are). In hindsight, the best thing about hosting Christmas last year was it forced me to get everything put away and cleaned up quickly. Which I would most definitely have procrastinated on bigtime if I didn't have that extra incentive! I posted some info on our scheduling about halfway down the linked thread so you can judge how it compares to yours. We did have our schedules and trades locked down by early Sept though; do you already have your timelines committed to by your subs? I wouldn't mind taking another month. I will add May to my hosting duty. If someone decides later that they would like to host, I can give one up. At this time, I want to make sure we get the year covered.

Sure, Midnight, I can try to explain. The Make New Friends (MNF) is a year long swap group. You don't need to sign up for every month to swap or even be a member. We don't have memberships. Everyone is welcome to join. Newbies or veterans. Anyone who wants to make a new friend :)

If you host a month, it is your job to decide the theme for that month and to set your rules for the month. Everyone is welcome to make their own swap rules to fit their swap. Sometimes you can only use a small flat rate box, or, some swaps are for only plants, some for only seeds. You get the idea. :) Totally up to you to decide. You also make sure that everyone sends and receives within the allotted time frame.

Swaps are a lot of fun! And we are always excited to make a new friend :)

I hope this clears things up a little and doesn't confuse you more, lol.

I am kind of a newbie. I traded a lot a number of years ago, but life takes us different directions and I didn't have as much time for gardening. But, I have moved and have a big yard to fill and trading is a great way to do that. I would like to take June if it is still open and it is ok with you. Kelli

I'm am so sorry about not getting back to you about my month! My aunt had brain surgery last week and I have been tied up with helping her out! Hopefully I still have time to start my month! I was hoping to do a winter sow theme for my month. I'm not sure how this works so I guess you'll email me for my Addy?

My rules are as follows:
Winter sow theme so any seeds that are good to start indoors or outdoors.
You can send as many seeds as you would like. Try to send no more than 3 of each.
Return postage and labels, bubble envies.
I think it would be neat to send in a card or note that i can put in someone elses envie when i return it, just introducing yourself and to say hi to all the participants.
I hope the rules are ok and since I am late starting I'd like to have the seeds in to me by Feb. 8th and I can have them mailed back by the following Mon.

Just wondering if anyone would like to try their hand at hosting in May. I will do it if no one is interested. I have May and November and it happens that we will be visiting our son and daughter in law in Texas in May. Maybe someone who has never hosted would like to give it a try. I would be happy to help you along with the job. Just let me know.

I hate to do this, but I am also going to have to bow out for the September exchange since I am going to California again this year on vacation. Last year my laptop quite working while on the plane and if I wasn't for Margo taking over for me I don't know what I would have done.

I am attending the National Heirloom Expo again this year. It was just wonderful and learned so much.

Shirley, I can do November but hoped someone would pick up May. A couple members have offered to take one month, (Ellie is unable to do April). May is going to be tough for me to do so am waiting for someone to grab that. Thanks though :)

I made the mistake of putting April as a month she wanted out of instead of September. She is indeed doing April and she started the post today. (You may want to join it, check it out). The July MNF Swap will not take place for a variety of reasons, including the weather and the fact that so many folks take vacation in July. We will be back strong in August with Vina's MNF Iris', Hosta's & Daylilies OH MY! Year 2, which was a great one last year. Be there or be...left out.
