has anyone found the rock dusts/sand to help the garden

I have tried lava sand and azomite in the veggie garden, in potted plants, and the yard. I have not noticed any difference. I have not done a control plot though. I was thinking of trying decomposed granite, but wondered if anyone has noticed any real improvement using this type of product. Despite the hype about azomite, I don't like it. It behaves like clay, getting hard when wet. I don't need more clay! I like to use lava sand in potting mixes to keep soil from compacting, but I don't see it helping the plants to grow in anyway.

I do mulch (with grass clippings mostly). It breaks down to a very nice humus. Maybe I should just stick with that and not worry about all I have read about adding rock dusts to add back minerals that have been depleted from our soils. The dirt doctor says the only thing out soil needs in this area is organic matter. I guess all soils don't all need the same things.
