Does anyone know of a good nursery in Tyler?

We are taking a day trip there tomorrow to go to Chuckie Cheese with the kids. I figure if I have to sit through a couple of hours of that place, I deserve to make a stop at a plant place. We live in Lufkin, so something on the south side would be great. Thanks!!!

Any lily, tubular or red flower whether shrub or perennial attracts and provides nectar. Some plants are more attractive & if you have a variety of plants with different blooming sequence they will stay in your yard. What really attracts them is moving water from a fountain! A sampling of what I've seen them coming to in order of bloom in my garden rhododedendrons native honeysuckle service berry shrub bleeding heart epimedium lamium - spotted dead nettle foxglove Heuchera fuchsia daylily salvia red hot poker monarda - bee balm anise hyssop or other agastache cape fuchsia, Phygelius phlox, tall fragrant I'm probably forgetting something. Once the bee balms are blooming I can sit out front in a chair and watch them zoom from garden to garden where I've planted different bee balms. The reds are their favorites all summer long. I regularly see them in the morning near the fountains as soon as we put them out again in spring and resting on nearby plant trellis & supports.

You don't say where in the state you are... I worked for both a private wildlife research company and the feds in Alaska for nearly 10 years. It's a tough field with a lot of competition. Most everyone I knew proved themselves by either volunteering or taking a short-term, low-paying position... Parks/arboretums/conservation groups often have volunteer positions available...

After reading reviews and checking out what appears to be the actual online nursery website, I might be interested in visiting the greenhouse if I was in the area but would forego ordering online. It sounds from the reviews like you might get really nice plants, but also might get bad stock with no recourse. From the website FAQ: "Can I return an item that is damaged, defective?Sorry, no returns are accepted, all sales are final, all merchandise including all plant material is inspected for damage before packing, if you would like your package insured, please notify us by email and we will insure at your cost, when the package leaves our facility our responsibility ends. We will exercise care to have all plants true to size and name. We give no warranty expressed or implied as to the fitness for any particular use of the stock we sell. It is agreed that the original price shall be the maximum damages the purchaser is entitled to." http://www.accentsforhomeandgarden.com/faq.html It didn't sound from the reviews I read that they were eager to give out refunds.

Sorry John I clicked on your profile and saw your location. You lucky devil I typed in one of your zip codes. There are at least 30 nurseries in your area that carry EE rose including Lowes and Menards. Ours never have them and I'm not that far from Chicago. Thats usually where I end up driving. Most likely you will also be able to find Campfire. It's not an EE but a newer intro from Canada. Highly recommend this rose if you like it that is.

Ditto on Chamblee's. They just south of I-20 on Highway 69.

You MUST go to Chamblee's and check out their own-root roses. They carry many varieties that are excellent for Texas, but that you will never see in the local garden centers. You owe it to yourself to consider their antique tea roses (not hybrid teas) and their antique china roses, and their polyantha roses. Tough as nails and beautiful too. Ask their staff for advise ... they are fantastic. Have fun!

I've also heard there is a great place in Tyler for perennials, etc. I think it may be called Blue Moon or something similar to that.

Thanks everyone for the info. I went to Blue Moon and Hughes Plant Farm. I enjoyed the atmosphere at the Blue Moon. The gardens there are beautiful and the sound of all the windchimes was very relaxing, nice gift shop too. I did get a Belinda's Dream rose there that had a Chamblee tag on it. I can't wait till it starts to bloom. I love Hughes on 69s just south of town. Very good prices and healthy plants. I got many bedding plants and Knock Out rose. I have a trip planned to Dallas next month and I have to drive through Tyler. Chamblee is on my list of detours!!! I am detoured a lot this year any time I see a plant nursery. It is addicting.
