Comments (29)Plantskydd works well for me also. Another is the Indian spice Asafoetida powder -- but it doesn't last as long. I have to get these out and get spraying as soon as this spell of rain ends. We have a remarkably large herd for my suburban (but surrounded by development) neighborhood. We have a ravine, a close by RR track, and a large green space on a residential school property that provides space for them, but clearly not enough for the population so no one is able to escape the ravaging horde. There is a tendency for club foot in the herd also that we see on several adults and fawns. I wonder if the result of inbreeding. So far the netting strung around my dormant potted fruit trees has protected them, but it needs to come off before they leaf out. I keep my blueberries under a gazebo frame strung with netting. I should have taller fencing all around the entire back yard soon though; there are just 3 gaps left and they do defeat the makeshift barriers in those spots from time to time. In the past they've eaten the entire strawberry patch the ground, pulled all the apples off the trees (and spat them out because they were bagged), and in winter eaten the branches of the young fruit trees back to the trunk. In the front they have eaten the tips off all the hydrangeas, and already have mown down the emerging tulips, columbine (which I haven't seen them eat before) and just overnight decimated the dutch iris. Haven't touched the daffodils or hellebore....See MoreWhere do I buy heuchera?
Comments (8)Thanks so much for all your replies... I will check all of the places you have mentioned. Now....Anyone have any suggestions for what else to put on my hill? I took a picture today, which I will try to post, but until then, what might look good on a hill, mixed in with the smaller heucheras and some palm trees? My husband got anxious on me and put in the calla lilies at the top of the hill in front of the wall. They look good there, but now that they're in, I'm not sure they'll be high enough to be seen well mixed in with the heucheras. I don't know how big they get, will have to research a bit. What else have you all put in with your heucheras? I am picturing the heucheras in several varieties mixed together to cover the hill, then individual bigger plants positioned to give interest to the hill beyond the color given by the heucheras. I think I want green plants to contrast with the brighter heucheras I'm looking at. What do you think?...See MoreWhere Can I find Yellow Crossvine and Evergreen Clemantis in DFW?
Comments (18)I just called Shades of Green in Frisco, and they said they had yellow crossvine last year, but don't have any currently. They said that they would likely have some in the summer. Rick, I was specificaly looking for a genuine yellow crossvine, evergreen, same leaves and everything as the red and orange variety! As far as crossvine colors/varieties, the redish orange with more orangey-yellow centers are the tangerine beauties, and the darker reds ones are the Lady Dragon. Lady Dragon's seem to be really hard to find. I only managed to find two. I got my crossvines at the Home Depot at the corner of Forest Lane and I75. they have 1 gal for about $5, or at least how much they were last fall. The location of the Evergreen Clematis (I have only been to the FW BG 3 times, so bear with me) was on a tree that I seem to remember was growing diagonally, and it had completely covered it! There was a label nearby, which was how I identified it! The road was right in front of it, and it was sort of an archway to crossing the street! The most striking thing I found about the Evergreen Clematis was that it had BIG LEAVES on it, and was a nice color of green. I saw it just this last fall. It looks like it has been there for a while, since it looks to span at least 40' or so and covered the tree. I hope this helps others! Comments (16)I just wanted to thank everyone for all the nice comments and offers of their plants! I found Henry and Augusta today at Stegall's in Kennedale. Just happened to be in FW today and gave them a call. But now I'm thinking I need more than the 4 I got! Is it true that Augusta will turn blue if she's close to Henry for a while?...See Morejardineratx
