Haven't seen any yellow crossvine, but the evergreen clematis can be found at Calloway's.

You might try Shades of Green in Frisco. I have a crossvine that I bought there 2 years ago that is yellow with red in the middle. Is that the one? You are welcome to come take a cutting from mine, if you'd like. I'm in NW Plano.

Just so I don't make a wasted trip, is there a specific Calloway's in Lewisville that you are refering to that you have recently seen it there in stock?
I want to make sure I hit the right one!

Also, does anyone know how hardy the evergreen clematis is here in the DFW area?
The one at the Ft Worth Botanical Garden seems to be doing really well, and it doesn't appear to be near any watering source...

I'll try Shades of Green in Frisco. This will give me an excuse to go up there and actually check the place out! I have heard Neil Sperry talk about it on the radio, but never took the time to go check it out.
If I don't have any luck, I might take you up on the cutting deal! I've never tried getting a plant started from a cutting before, but I suppose some root stimulator would be involved somehow!

I've never heard of an Evergreen Clematis. Is it one particular plant or is it a variety of Clematis? If it's one particular plant, what color are the flowers? How long ago did you see if at the Ft. Worth Botanical gardens and where exactly was it located. If it was recently, I may have to make a run over there.

Calloway's at Vista Ridge, but I suspect all the stores will have them unless they sell out.

I forget the color of evergreen clematis, but seems as though it is pale yellow.

I have three varieties, which I am trying to grow into a mix on a trellis.

I love vines and now you guys have me wanting both. The yellow with red center sounds gorgeous.

I need to go see that one at BG too. Where abouts is it?

Yellow with red center, is a standard crossvine, (far as I know), which I have, and it is available at most nursureis, including HD and Lowe's, but it may still be too early in the season to be in stock everywhere, yet.

This color, by the way, is muted and not brilliant, so it isn't as impressive as it sounds. Mine is blooming now.

Rick now that you mention it, I've probably seen this vine and it wasn't what I wanted.
I just googled and the red with yellowish center was pretty.

Okay, I just went to the Calloways in Colleyvile and they have the Evergreen Clematis. It was a white flower and I think it was $39.00

I just was at the Calloway's in Plano on Custer Rd. and they had both the evergreen clematis (in full bloom, white, and GEORGEOUS!), and also the yellow crossvine. If you call the Calloway's store nearest you, they would probably look to see if they have any before you made a trip out there. Not that gardeners ever really need an excuse to go to the nursery! They also have their 2 cu ft bags of shredded hardwood mulch on sale for 2.99 a bag through mid April. Good deal, I thought.

The yellow version is known as trumpet creeper or hummingbird vine?

The regular crossvine has a reddish orange with yellow tips to the bloom, in a two-tone look.

I just called Shades of Green in Frisco, and they said they had yellow crossvine last year, but don't have any currently. They said that they would likely have some in the summer.
Rick, I was specificaly looking for a genuine yellow crossvine, evergreen, same leaves and everything as the red and orange variety!
As far as crossvine colors/varieties, the redish orange with more orangey-yellow centers are the tangerine beauties, and the darker reds ones are the Lady Dragon.
Lady Dragon's seem to be really hard to find. I only managed to find two.

I got my crossvines at the Home Depot at the corner of Forest Lane and I75. they have 1 gal for about $5, or at least how much they were last fall.

The location of the Evergreen Clematis (I have only been to the FW BG 3 times, so bear with me) was on a tree that I seem to remember was growing diagonally, and it had completely covered it! There was a label nearby, which was how I identified it! The road was right in front of it, and it was sort of an archway to crossing the street!

The most striking thing I found about the Evergreen Clematis was that it had BIG LEAVES on it, and was a nice color of green. I saw it just this last fall. It looks like it has been there for a while, since it looks to span at least 40' or so and covered the tree.

Yep, that yellow one is "Jekyll", the trumpet creeper. Haven't ever seen that variety, that I can recall, in the local nurseries.

That would be Sweet Autumn Clematis.

I did some calling around at Calloways today, and that is what someone referred to it as. The label at the FW BG called it Evergreen Clematis though if I remember correctly.
BTW, all of the Calloways that I called said they didn't have it in stock, but some indicated that it will be coming in in the next week or so, so if you are interested, keep an eye out for it.
I'm sure that once you see what nice BIG leaves it has, you will want to get one! Just leave one for me!

OK, I went to the FW BG plant sale yesterday, and decided to walk around to find the location of where I saw the Evergreen Clematis.
The first place I saw it was when you come in from the main entrance (throught the building along the paved walk way). Before you cross the little bridge, there is a sign that says "Please Walk Around" on your right hand side as you face west (which I don't really know what/why it is even there!). Anyways, if you look across the grass, you will see a big bushy vine with large spearhead shaped glossy green leaves on it, and it is even covering it's description label! I walked past the sign across the grass and parted back the leaves, and it was labeled as Evergreen Clematis (Clematis Armandii).
The other place that I mistakenly thought it was at was on the tree that was growing diagonally. Actually, that was Sweet Autumn Clematis, but along that same side of the road, there is a trash bin, and near that, there is a big mound of Evergreen Clematis!
