Can someone identify this kind of worm

Hi All!

Realizing there are thousands of species of worms can someone possibly tell me what type of Compost Worm this is that is found in my out of doors compost pile without having a photo?

I should probably tell you I live in zone 5 in Upstate Central NY.

First it ranges from 3" to about 6" in length. I rarely see them any smaller.

It is very shiny and almost rainbow in color having purple blue contrasting colors etc.

It is almost snake like in its movement as it crawls extrememly fast with a very powerful and wide zig-zag motion.

Also if not handled properly its body will break in two very easily.

I also find they are not nearly as plentiful as our basic "red wigglers". If I were to guess the ratio is easily hundreds to one.

Thanks in advance.

Jim
