We planted Hyacith bean 2 years ago. It grew very very big. 2 plants and for a whole month (or even 2 ,can't remember) we had hyacith beans for each and every dinner. Everyone in the family (4 of us) complained.I guess we were also lazy about picking them and they were not so tender most of the time. Got sick of it and we did not plant it last year. But now I miss it again and will plant one or two. This time I will make sure beans will be picked up early. When first blooming it is very magnificant but then it attacted a lot of mites when it gets mature. Changsong

Hello flora_uk. Yes, I was aware of that; Aussie plant names generally derive from the UK, and Europe generally, as we, (the Eurpoean) population do. I haven't grown the subject plant, so as to the degree of 'hairiness' alluded to by ash_ga I can't comment. By the way, 'Funnelweb' is not simply 'funnel' it refers to a spider, the word's deadliest - Atrax Robusta, in my case the male of the species. Its habitat is the northern suburbs of Sydney (Aus.), where I lived before I retired and gardened and moved away. I had a 'close encounter' with one some years ago. It's a long story, but I admire the animal; it is a magnificent specimen of the species - certainly (for it's species) a perfect killing machine. By the way, I'm not, I'm a gardener!

By "Black Eyed Susan vine", I'm guessing you mean the annual Thunbergia alata. If the pods are fully developed (and not immature), you can leave them to dry out and plant next spring (or indoors a few weeks before the last frost). Once dry, they'll keep better under refrigeration. Lobelia can self-seed and you may well get plantlets next spring by sprinkling seed on the ground now. However, I think it's too late in the year to expect cuttings placed in the ground to take root and overwinter.
