The BSF are very active in warm weather. From your post it seems you have set up a perfect environment for BSF.
How many worms are in your bin? Your worms may be bailing due to heat inside the bin from activity of BSF.

worms avoid the larvae, usually by going deeper .... I'd adjust things to get rid of the BSF

I've also heard that worms will try to escape if the pH gets too low (acid) and since newsprint does tend to be acid are you doing anything to help keep the pH in line?

I wouldn't worry about pH, it'll take care of itself, but the BSF prefer things wetter than worms need, especially with lots of rotting organics exposed on/near the surface [as opposed to properly decomposing] - keep food buried under an inch or 3 of damp shredded paper

Actually, I think I'm going to give up on the whole thing... Right now I'm all of a sudden getting a lot of leachate and it smells (which it didn't do the last many months). It's all wet.
So how do I stop this baby? I just dump it all outside somewhere? Or do you have any magic tricks that can put me back on track? Please help!!! My family thinks it's disgusting (the smell) - I make sure they don't look into the bin or they'd run away from home. Those BSF look horrible. The escaping worms are also making ugly traces on my garage floor.

Why is the bin so wet? I would expect you to have tried to let it dry out a bit since you noticed it was too wet and the worms were trying to leave. Anarobic (too wet not enough air) conditions will cause all sorts of bad smells. Add more dry bedding. Soak up or pour out as much of the excess liquid as you can. Don't add more liquid or moisture till you are back on track. It is ok for the top layer of bedding to dry out a bit so long as there is adequate moisture somewhere in the bed for the worms to re-hydrate.

If you went from a dry season into a wet season that could explain why things are not drying out at the same rate as they were before. Adjust your watering accordingly.

I never water at all. All I do to adjust the humidity is add shredded newspaper. There is just a lot of moisture in the scraps I throw out, I've always assumed. I just poked around in the bin, and it looks like ALL my worms have gone away! I had SO many a month or so ago, now all I see is BSF larvae and yucky traces on the floor. I'm giving up. Should I just dump the whole bin on an outdoor compost pile? Is it always this difficult? If I try it again with a new batch of worms, how can I make sure I don't get BSF taking over again? The bsf larva are there because you OVERFED YOUR WORMS. It is not difficult at all if you don't OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. They wont take over again if you DON'T OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. The tray system would only be better if you DON'T OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. Your next question might be how do I NOT OVERFEED MY WORMS? Make sure that they eat all that you feed them last time and wait a day then give them some more. It can not get much simplier. If they are not eating enough then you have not got enough worms.

I would add whole lot of dry shredded paper and cardboard. As much as you can fit into the bin. Then leave it. The added shred will absorb moisture and smells, eventually your coccoons will hatch and you'll have more worms. The new dry shred will shrink as it absorbs moisture and softens. Then your new baby worms will eventually repopulate, the BSF will die or go away. Add more worms if you want to speed things up, and, well, yeah, don't feed it as often or as much.

If there are still worms in there, the new dry shred will give them more space to avoid whatever they're leaving the bin to avoid.

The bed has soured don't waste your time or money on it, put some newspaper in it and set it aside if you want to or pour it in another box or bucket. If anything hatches take the worms out and put in your new bed. Why try to bring back a rotten, sour, acidic bed full of maggots when a new one only costs 3 of 4 dollars at the most. No BSF to fool with either in the new bed. To fix the old bed you would have to put way more paper than the bed would hold to do any good. You would also have to correct the acidic ph with some limestone. Then there is no guanentee so what is the point.

what will help dry it out is to add some coarser carbon material like coarse sawdust [not the fine stuff from skil or table saws] or fine planer shavings - more paper just gets soggy and packs back to being anaerobic, which is the real problem - too much moisture means not enough air and air circulation - fluffing and adding the coarser material [called 'bulking agent' in commercial composting] will discourage the BSF as well

one pound of adult worms will eat about 1/2# of waste per day, use that as a guide to how much a bin can process, and each time you add food, put it in a hole, moving around the bin, noting how long it takes each pocket to mostly disappear .... and remember that most food is about 80% water
