Need solution to kill ants in garden
Comments (79)HELP! I am desperate to find a way to get rid of the ants in my flower beds. They are small black/dk brown ants that prefer greasy foods over sweets. (Discovered when my daughter dropped a french fry in the kitchen and didn't pick it up.) They are in my flower beds. I have found them in two potted plants already this year (one of them a hibiscus). They were in my mailbox without dirt at one time after it had rained for a while. Luckily, they do not bite but they are walking around my house all the time and I'm concerned they will be a bigger problem when I bring my tropical plants back in the house in the fall. Does anyone know if these methods safe for houseplants and herbs?...See MoreSolution for Gardenia Scales + Ants
Comments (5)i would prefer a picture.. and an actual ID of the pest .. before we rely on the diagnosis ... killing scale with oil.. is extremely hit and miss ... and timing is imperative ... ignore the ants.. if in fact the problem is scale.. than the ants are eating the honeydew they produce... get id of the scale.. [or aphids].. and the ants go mind their own business ... if you can not post a pic.. then cut off a small branch.. and take it to a local high end nursery ... as compared to bigboxstore ... ken...See MoreMy solution to keep ants away (it's working!!)
Comments (42)Glad the photos are being enjoyed :). I have the camera phone with me all the time so often take pictures and videos. The begonia is wonderful isn't it? So dramatic with its orange tendrils! It looks a bit weary right now - I don't think it likes the rains we have had. I don't know much about its needs - am hopeful it will perk up again. We have resigned ourselves to the squirrels eating a lot of seed and actually enjoy watching them as we do the birds. They make a few squirrel proof feeders but I am not sure how good they work. Thank you for the ID on the hawk! I will be looking up info on them and the woodpecker now that I know what they really are. The cowbirds were surreal that day! I did not capture it, but there were about five of them trying to share that little tree! It was so funny and so interesting since they were just inches away from the window! I, too, sort of like that old container with the fern. Isn't it lovely the way the backlighting make the fronds look like flames? I have it in my head to make a hanging container of some sort for the fern, but am in no hurry. It has a charm about it as is. I attached a photo I took yesterday at dusk. It was an evening of soft breezes and steady, gentle rains and the male hummingbird was making his final rounds before settling in for the night. Unfortunately I was too far away to get a great shot, but if you look closely you will see him perched on the feeder edge sipping happily!...See MoreCrazy Ants That Eat Fire Ants!
Comments (8)I remember the fire ant marching North :( I was hoping that our weather would be too cold for them. Over the years that marched up this way, we where in a heat wave w/ a droughts in the summer, now I wonder how cold is too cold for the fire ants, how much more will they go north. I know the site said they are not sure how they got in Huston or where they came from... But one has to wonder, if someone didnt "plant" the little guys on our soil, hoping to kill the fire ants, but not knowing full of what the crazy ants would do. and how does a African queens escape from an South American lab (AKA; Killer bees) furthermore, why does it always seem that when I Insect gets loose, it has to be a nasty one. what happened to all the good Insects. the site, it also said that they kill out electrical meaning they also invade inside your home, and wipe out our ladybugs. But what I don't understand is that it looks like they could have been control, and still could, if the EPA would allow a stronger ant killer to be available to the Exterminators. for me it leaves too many questions and not enough answers. Like if they knew about the ants since 2002, why have they not done something about it.. If an exterminator is charging someone $1200 to kill out the ants at her parents home ( if that is true, and it really does kill the ants) then there you go.....See Morehoneybunny2 Fox
