Need FULL sun ground cover

I have two small beds (7ft. x 3 ft.) that are cut out of the decking around my pool. I like to put annual color in there but it's getting expensive and time consuming. The beds get ZERO shade but will be watered when the lawn is watered (likely once a week). I would love something evergreen that would flower but am open to just about anything.

Suggestions?

I've heard good things about hardy plumbago/ dwarf plumbago (Ceratostigma plumbaginoides.) However, I don't have it, so can't speak from experience. It has attractive blue flowers, and the foliage turns color in fall. But it supposedly dies off in the winter, to re-emerge late next spring.

If you can contain it to the beds, Creeping Daisy (Wedelia) would fill the bill.

You might think about mint. Any kind of mint in my experience will do well in full sun and does not flower. Also this is probably just me but I planted a catnip bed this weekend for my three furry kids. One of my kitties gets so excited when he starts chewing on our one catnip plant that he will flop down on and hug the plant itself. I felt that kind of behavior demanded an entire catnip bed so he can really go crazy. You know you might look at some of the other herbs out there also. Some (like thyme) don't get terribly tall and flowers are fairly incidental. Good luck. Kate

I have Thyme, grows between the flagstone..but the grass keeps growing in it and I am always pulling out the grass..hope you do a better job getting rid of the grass. I love the thyme, at the moment I am trying to find out about now to transplant more of it as some of it has died. Good luck with yours..it is very beautiful.martha/zucchini

Your best bet is one of the low, groundcover Junipers. I like Japanese Garden Juniper the best. There are others.

Plumbagoes are wonderful plants. However, the blossoms are sticky. If they should make their way into your pool as they mature and drop off, there could be a problem there.

Woolly Stemodia (Stemodia tomentosa) does well for me in full sun, without watering. I'm not sure how it would do with weekly watering. Salvia Sineloensis would be another option, but does not do well in full sun in summer without watering. It should be fine with weekly watering.
