You can save some money by buying metal brackets at HD or any place that sells lumber. They have what you need in the lumber section rather than the hardware section. They are galvanized angle brackets that have a bunch of holes punched in them and are used to join framing lumber like 2x4, 2x6, etc. You need brackets about 5" high for use with 2x6 lumber and they are about $2 each if I remember right. Sorry, you can't just slip the lumber in them. You use the brackets on the inside of the corner and screw into the lumber with galvanized deck screws (about 1-1/2 inch long). It is really fast with an electric drill and a philips bit; if your lumber is really tough you might have to drill a pilot hole first but it is usually not necessary. You can disassemble them easily but it is not something you want to do frequently. They don't look great but are usually covered with dirt anyway. Bob B

Pulling weeds is a periodic but constant chore. You're never finished, and there's no product or method you can use to stop them permanently. If there was, we'd all have/use it & there would be no weeds (and the inventor would be the richest person - ever!) When you see something sprouting, pull it out before it becomes difficult to do so. When you are walking around, looking at your lovely yard, pull them when you see them. Don't wait until you 'have weeding to do.' That's no fun & a lot more time consuming. Yes, I would start with a clean slate by pulling them now. This is the time of year I can see little tree sprouts hidden by foliage during summer. A weed-wacker/trimmer should be able to help you keep the lawn from being able to climb into raised box/beds. Maybe I'm not imagining your situation correctly? Feel free to add a pic to get the most specific suggestions.

simpson strong tie makes LOTS of great hardware... corner braces, long angled pieces ,for any size, like $2 each, some coated deck screws, a whole box's hardware should be like $10... any real hardware or lowes or HD has them... takes the issue out of making 90 degree corners too....

I have seen stuff called "topsoil" that was spent foundry sand, sand with enough organic material added to make the light tan stuff black, stuff skimmed off a swamp, stuff that is not good soil. The definition of topsoil is, quite simply, the top 4 to 12 inches of soil, so yes the term is meaningless as the link I posted above will help those that have a hard time understanding what I write understand, if they read it. The term "garden soil" means about the same thing as "topsoil", nothing. Many people have posted here that what they got when they ordered is not what they expected and many people have made it clear they would not know good soil when they saw it. If someone giving advice here cannot define "topsoil" they should not be recommending to someone that that is what they need.
