Are you looking for snail vine or corkscrew vine? Lots of places confuse the two but they are two different vines. Corkscrew vine is cream and purple and is fragrant. Snail vine is purple, not fragrant but has a much longer bloom period. There is somone on EBAY selling seeds for both.

Ah yes! The very generous Claudia is sending me a seed and cincinnata is sending me some too! Seed Savers had some,but I couldn't talk my husband out of $8.00 to get them...(trying to garden on my student budget is really tough,but it was just around $8.00! He just doesn't understand :) So thanks again to both who offered free seed to me! Check back w/ my list and if there's ever anything there you might want just email me, I owe you a freebie!

I've never grown this plant before,but I fell in love w/ it when I saw a picture of it in the Jackson & Perkins catalog! Should I start the seeds now inside? About what time should I put them outside?

They haven't came in the mail yet! But I can assure you I will start them as soon as they get here. It's going to be warm here by this time next month so I figured it would be ok to go ahead and get them started. I'll keep you posted on their progress!

Why oh why are these seeds so hard to find. I am hitting dead ends at every turn.

I received two kinds in a trade - one called vigna caracalla and another called phaseolus giganteus. I planted the seeds and have a few little seedlings. Am watching them like a hawk. Can't wait until they get big enough to move into the ground.

Ya'll could try the posting a request for them on the seed exchange forum - just depends if anyone has them to trade and what seeds or plants you have to trade for them.

I got mine from Thompson and Morgan,not the fragrant ones I might add,but I am excited to have them just the same.I found them tricky to start until I talked to the horticulturist at T&M.They need sandy well drained mix. I now have two sprouts, and I am really ecstatic about that.

I got mine on eBay! Cant wait to plant them up. maybe tonite! ;) I am zone 5a , so , hopefully. they will do okay. My first time with them. SO EXCITED!

Parks have seedlings and seeds as of today (May 5). I also almost always see the seeds on e-bay.

If you are interested in a rooted cutting rather than seeds, visit Monticello's website. I purchased a rooted cutting while visiting a few years ago. I receive a catalog every spring where I always see it listed. While I don't see it on the website, there is contact info. It would be worth contacting them to see if they are still shipping bareroot.

I have seeds of the VIGNA CACRACALLA. NOT the common snail vine.Those snail vine seeds are as cheap as marigold seeds. The Vigan Caracalla are the expensive ones! THE 'corkscrew vine' is Vigna Caracalla. AND I know how to get them to sprout and grow. But as you can see from MY post. I am having my own problems with the seedlings now. If you need seeds...write me.
I missed out on getting them from Park Seed. They sold out in less than 2 weeks of me getting the catalog. And Monticello plants cost to much. I got mine on EBay. From several sellers. I dont know if anyone is selling them now. BUT they want a fortune for them!

I finally got a sprout! Out of all the seeds I got,I only got one good sprout.but it's a good strong one,if it would just grow....it's been the same size for weeks!

Do you have it in a pot of soil..or did you sprout it the way I mentioned? If it is in soil. I was just told that mine is not growing bigger because the pot size is to small. So..maybe the pot is to small for the plant? I am potting up my 4 seedlings into a gallon pot today...up from 4in pots that had 2 seedlings in each pot. THEN if it takes off..it goes in the ground and onto a fence! Then I know it needs root room!

Hi, I have a Vigna Caracalla growing outside now. I am in NY, #7, so I'd like to winter it indoors. It is in the ground, so I will dig it up and pot it. Since the vine is huge is it okay to cut it back, a lot? How much sun will it need? Also, when can I remove seeds from it to share with others? Thanks!
