OM Goodness, What have I done LOL

This is the first time in 3 years that I have felt like and have time to get back into the yard. It's slow but I'm all pumped up about it and a little nervous too, hoping I haven't taken on to much at once.

This year DH has joined the garden wagon YEA..he's helping out with the raised veggie beds unknown to him I'll put a few flowers here and there HEHE.

He even raked leaves for the first time in the ten years we've lived here. He's not into the gardening thing like me but at least he's now helping out and I'm very thankful.

Sam's has the composit board raised beds made in USA :) so I couldn't let it pass me by. I have 12 seedlings of Ghost peppers, 3 Habanero peppers, 6 cucumber plants, 2 long neck squash, 6 zucchinis, 2 cherokee maters, 2 cherry maters, 6 beff steak seedling maters, 5 black eyed susan daisies seedlings, lemon blab,curry plant, 2 sage, 2 thyme, dill 2 egg plants,onions, 9 black foot daisies, 6 petunia waves.

Wow Barb, sounds like you are going to be pretty busy! What color wave petunia did you choose? Don't forget where you put the ibuprofen!

Well, I don't know know how big your raised bed is ....but.....sounds to me as if it is really going to be full when all these babies become adults........LOL>

Let me work something out to send you:-) You WON this contest. Rosey, trust me when I tell you, I didn't kill any plants because I had no room? What I have never killed off any plumeria because of a lack of room, in fcat they require no room, except that is if you want to bring them into bloom by starting early and leafing them out. I got tired of all the work to get them to bloom and the bugs associated with them. I never had enough HOT sun to do them justice and if I started them early in the spring, I was always scared to put them anywhere near my other plants because they would infect them with bad pests. In fact, one year, I had put them in my greenhouse, the only place for warmth, and they infected all my plants with Thrips, Spider mites, and other maggots all at once. Never again. Now,if I can't put certain trouble plants in my grenhouse, or plant rooms and be safe, then I avoid certian ones. I do have just teh special ones given to me that sit on a heat mat under lights far away from the rest of my plants. Now, I play it safe.:-) Mike

Cacbeary- I may be a little late with this posting, but, better late than never! I don't think it is sick at all for your mom to place a stepping stone at your father's grave. Everyone grieves differently. I think it is a terrific idea. I also think it is better than a bunch of fake flowers that you buy at Walmart. No offense to anyone who does this, I do this, too. Not everyone can have a stepping stone at their grave. Its a very lasting momento. I, for one, think it is very sweet and a suggestion that I may make to people who want to commerate their loved ones. It would also be great for kids to do and then as they get older it will always be there. I'm into it. Kelly

april_love, you seem to be getting every possible opinion from "enjoy it", to "undo it," so whatever you do, you have supporters. There's just one piece of incorrect info here, and that's from kompy, who is probably trying to make you feel better. The cost of your kitchen is not only 14K in kompy's example, it's 14K plus whatever you could have earned on the original 40K by just leaving your kitchen alone, which is probably thousands more. Also, the "value" of your house is exactly what someone else will pay for it, and in most of the country that number continues to decline, so even with the new kitchen, depending on where you live, your house may be worth less next year than it is this year. And that's not even taking into account the fact that it's a mistake to have the nicest house (or kitchen) in the neighborhood In terms of fiscal responsibility, it sounds like you've learned a lot and have worked very hard for all of this. But it is unwise to plan from the get-go to put overages, that can run 10 - 15% of your (already excessive in your opinion) budget on a credit card. Don't do it. Almost anything would be better. A much better fiscal solution would be to reconfigure your plans so that overages fit into your cash budget. That means at the very least you should try to find a way to cut back by 10 - 15% before you start. I'm with rosie on this one, I would put everything on hold and go over my plan with the cabinet maker, but it sounds like you're planning to move forward anyway. If so, enjoy the fruits of your labor, and best of luck.

I have been busy bringing in the plants that I want to keep over the Winter. I brought the two Hibiscus in a couple days ago since the weather guy was warning us of a frost. Today I cut back the Mandavilla and brought it in. Also two large hanging begonias and one Coleus. I've never tried to keep a Coleus, but it was just too pretty to throw out. They are all in the end of the garage where I have an entrance door with windows. Also I dumped some container plants, and took down the deck umbrella and brought it in. I'm right proud of myself!! The weather today has been perfect with sunshine, and temps in the high 60's. S'posed to get some of that rain on Saturday, when the family will be here for my DD's birthday. I hope it will hold off though. Enjoy the weather while we can. Winter is just aeound the bend. Sue

Barb, I got my DH to join in the gardening chores by putting him in charge of the compost outpost. I had three bins, but since he is such a manly man he insisted that we needed ten. So now we have ten bins, all lined up like soldiers at roll call. He keeps them turned over and sifts the compost in a special sifter that I built from 2x4's and 1/2" hardware cloth. It's great when they think they are in charge of something. Last year he told me to get all the seedlings out of the kitchen and then in sheer frustration told me to get a greenhouse. Oh, what a tangled web we weave......Mwahahahaha!!! If he only knew. So I got the greenhouse and it is fabulous and he can't say a thing against it since it was his idea. My DH was holding a rake a couple of weeks ago, I got a picture of it. I don't think you've done anything wrong, frankly I think you are on the right track. Cheryl

So glad your husband is finally realizing the utter joy of gardening! Sometimes you have to lead the horse to water and hold his head under . . . .
We are having the back section of our barn taken down, and the raised foundation filled with years of manure, straw and God knows what else is going to be a fabulous raised vegetable garden. Wait until my husband finds out! Fortunately, he doesn't mind my little "projects" and is willing to till and haul mulch.

It sounds like you like things pretty spicy! It sounds like you'll have a wonderful garden. Since the snow has melted, I plan on getting some of my seedlings out there by this weekend. Good luck with your garden and let us know how much produce you get! Remember, if you have too much, give the extras to neighbors or your local food pantry.

Wow I didn't know I could give it to a pantry. Thanks for letting me know, cause if it good well I'll have a bunch.

I put everything outside today with plans on covering if needed.
