Slow seedling growth, yellow/brown leaves..
Comments (7)If in fact the test results are correct, then what does "N = 0.1 out of 4 "mean? Does it mean that 4 is normal and you got 0.1 ? so this then shows real severe shortage of nitrogen. Also, on the pH, a reading of 7.2 not quite ideal but is ok Most veggies prefer slightly under 7(6.8 ). 7 being nutral, less than 7 acidic, greater than 7 being alkaline. So the conclusion: soil lack nitrogen, plants don't get enough direct sun. have thing that get only 3 to 4 hours of direct sun. Doing ok, not great. I don't think water hardness is a real issue here. Is it city water or well water ? ANOTHER USEFUL INFO: Ok. your pH is on the sweet side and Nitrogen is almost non existing. But P and K are fine. Here is what I would do: Just get Ammonia (NH3) . and apply it per instructions . This is going to be double edged sword: (1) take care of nitrogen deficiency (2) reduce alkalinity (somewhat. anything is good). Avoid applying P, Magnesium (like Epson salt..) Comments (1)Rick, Items I would look at are nutrition and lighting. Many of my seedlings have shed leaves from light, and grow larger leaves in their place during winter. But, from your observations, I suspect a nutrients issue. Depending on your potting material and water, your plants are likely being flooded by a particular mineral or two. I would eliminate the fertilizers for now and try to use a neutral water source. Many "store bought soils" contain high concentrations of these. If I were you, I would provide adequate lighting and flush the soil over time. Also be mindful of good drainage. Ed...See MoreSeedling leaves turning yellow
Comments (2)More than one thing causes this but first I would check for spidermites. Place a piece of white paper under the leaf and tap the leaf. If it is mites you should see tiny pepper size spots crawling on the paper....See MoreRadish seedlings stems yellowing (leaves still green)
Comments (0)Hey guys! Hope you're all doing great. I'm totally new to any kind of gardening and recently thought I'd try growing some plants in containers (no outdoor space and no balcony/terrace, unfortunately). My Sparkler radish seedlings sprouted but haven't grown much, and in the last day or two I've also noticed that the stems are yellowing. The stems were formerly dark pinkish and are now becoming pale yellow and a couple of them are becoming sorta bendy (please see attached picture). Is this normal? And if not, how do I fix it? I searched the forums for guidance on this problem, but most people who have posted about this problem seem to have leaves also yellowing, not just the stems (in my case it's just the stems that are yellowing). I gather from reading GardenWeb forums that I need to thin out the seedlings, but I thought that that should happen only after the first true leaves grow? If I'm not mistaken, these seedlings are still at the cotyledon-only stage right now. Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Sorry for the newbie questions! EDIT: Forgot to mention, these are in an east-facing window, and I have a compact fluorescent bulb (daylight color) shining on them too. The seedlings are in seed-starting mix and I added in a very small amount of very diluted fertilizer....See Moreliv2learn
