My baby mango tree/Need care instructions

Hi all, I germinated a mango seed successfuly and here it is after 3 weeks. I planted it yesterday to a big pot. A friend told me that I should cut the lower leaves as the baby tree grows (the leaves closer to the ground) so that the tree can grow vertical and strong. Is this so? I would like to receive advise from someone with some experience as to which leaves, when and how often should I be cutting leaves and any other special instructions so that I can increase the chances of having the tree produce fruit. I have this mango baby tree planted in a big pot in my balcony which has about 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Thanks for your feedback!
