good worms for kitchen bin?

Hi,

I live in a rented duplex so i don't have alot of space, and we back up to woods so lots of dogs, coons, etc. So i have limited my compost efforts to dumping veggie and fruit scraps (and stale bread, coffee grounds and egg shells) into a 10 gallon covered pail on my back stoop. about once a week we take the pail over to the community center and dump it in the demo compost bin there, but now i'd like to start being able to use it myself on my puny garden. My (probably ignorant)question: if i just dumped some red worms in there and poked ventilation holes in the lid, would they make compost? or do i need to try to add more brown stuff (i could grab handfuls of leaves from the forest floor if necessary!) thanks in advance!!! i've got absolutely no experience with compost, but i thrive on learning new things so let 'er rip....
